Summer Weekend #6

...a day late. Because a container of Pedialyte, two showers, and lots of broken sleep later (#Wells), I'm up to it. I was so exhausted on Sunday that I basically walked laps around the Chicago airport just to keep from falling asleep and/or throwing up. I'm not the toughest traveler out there. I want to call it exhaustion and the general feeling of nausea I get when I fly, because the 2-3 drinks I had on Saturday does not a hangover make (right?).

On Friday we went to Kansas City for our friends' wedding. Scott was in the wedding so it was two days full of festivities. I didn't take a ton of pictures..Scott took some..but here's an overview.

I rarely talk about friends/family on this blog because I figure it's within everyone's natural rights not to be talked about on the internet without their input (that's in the Constitution, I'm sure). But I'll make an exception.

Scott met Jeff in Missouri in 2013. He was at Ft. Carson when we were as well and he and Scott were roommates when they deployed to Germany in 2015. We would have dinner with him every month or two while we were in Colorado. Eventually, he transitioned out of the army and moved to Denver.

In January of 2017, Jeff invited us out to dinner to meet his new girlfriend and she was. a. delight. We continued to hang out with them while I was pregnant last year and even after Wells was born. In fact, Scott was fishing with Jeff the week before Wells was born and I just remember saying I better know where you are and you better answer your phone because I'd been having contractions for weeks.

Jeff and Kasey were our first friends who met Wells last summer.  We were thrilled when they got engaged.

Whenever we move back out west (because we will, no doubt), we'll hopefully get to see them more often.

Spouses of the wedding party rode the wedding bus as well. It was super convenient, actually, because I didn't have to figure out where to go or where to park.

There were kids at the wedding and we could've taken Wells along but there would've been no one to help with him; everyone else with a baby had relatives or friends nearby who could lend a hand or a crib or whatever. Since Scott was in the wedding and we had certain places to be at certain times, we left him in Pittsburgh and my parents came to watch him and the dogs for the weekend.

To be honest, one of the best parts of the weekend was coming home to clean dogs because my dad had given them a bath.

But we're thrilled for Jeff and Kasey and hope we get to see them again soon!

Wedding weekending

Hey, a weekend update on a Thursday...and you thought you were behind.

My brother got married on Saturday and I figured I'd share a few pictures. I will say that it was worth the horrific travel experience with Delta just because I hadn't been home in a few years and it was nice to see people and be in Pennsylvania. We do miss it.

I needed a picture of the rental car because we always end up with a Corolla. We had one in L.A. and one in Boston.

I'm so glad we got to go back in the fall. I miss this. There are no red trees in most of Colorado.

Favor bags at the hotel.

Bows that were used at my wedding. My mom had apparently held onto them for 8 years.

Bridal table.

Our table and centerpieces.

The venue was really nice.

The Pennsylvania touch.

I filled up on Middleswarth chips.

Bride and groom.

Blurry cake because it was dark.

My dad is hiding in the back.
My other brother is overseas, so this is as close as we'll get to a full family picture.

Same.

It really was a great party.

But the next day, Scott had homework to do and we were back to deciding what the next week would look like.

We stopped at Primanti Bros. before we headed to airport on Monday. This was the black bean burger and it was AMAZING.

Obviously, my brother and his now-wife live in Pennsylvania. I don't expect them to ever leave the state because of his job so us moving back is the only real way to see all of our family regularly. Per usual, right? We definitely can't move back anytime soon but every time we go home, we entertain the idea. Someday we'll figure this out. Until then, we are planning to go back for Christmas (dogs in tow and not on Delta.)

Scout is 4

Scout turned 4 on May 24th. I can't even put into words how much we love him.

I'm much more likely to celebrate his Gotch-ya Day, which is July 7th, but I figured we might as well play this up too.

So surly.

I've been drinking these protein shots lately because I've needed to increase my intake of protein. Scout was interested in this one. No, friend, you don't want that. It's disgusting.

(And while we're celebrating things....our EIGHT YEAR ANNIVERSARY was last Friday, May 26th. This is the 3rd year in a row Scott has been deployed for our anniversary so this pattern of events might be why I never post prose about anniversaries...To us, they're just days.
Making it 8 years in this military life is the real celebration :)

WIWW and It's our anniversary(!)

Our wedding was 3 years ago today.  In reality, we've been married for well over 3 years.  Confused?

Me too.

All I have to say is that we don't really celebrate September 12th as our anniversary.  Scott sent me these knives as a present back in May.  We consider May 26th to be our real anniversary.  It's weird not to celebrate your "wedding" day.  But this is so common in the military world.

And we I also celebrate our meet-a-versary.  August 30th. (In fact...Scott, I think you forgot my gift for our meet-a-versary.  Get on that, pleaseiloveyou.)

I told him I wanted an anniversary present for September 12th.  He laughed.  A lot.  That was actually the first time I'd talked to him on the phone in weeks.  He had clearly forgotten how funny charming I am.

Headband: Alaska Chicks // Jacket and jeggings:  JCP // Boots: Steve Madden //  Scarf:  Land's End

Welcome to what the next 6 months of my life are going to look like.  I wore this entire get-up all day yesterday.  I mean, the headband came off...for a few minutes at a time.

Anyway...

Happy this-week-is-just-about-half-over day!

P.S.  The Alaska Chicks website is currently under construction (Google them), but I am head over heels in love with their headbands.  I've bought about a dozen in the last 18 months; for me, as gifts, giveaways on the blog, etc.  If I were you, I'd be on the lookout for me giving away another one of these babies soon.

You know, when it becomes "hat weather" for the rest of the world.
