Said around our house + Thanksgiving Food

I am far too lazy (is lazy the word?) to type up a separate Thanksgiving post this year because we're not cooking a big dinner with just the two of us...Scott has had class all week so going home, though we normally don't, wasn't in the cards. Plus, we weren't sure what state we'd be in for Thanksgiving (I think we'll be in Colorado). But here's some posts from years past!

And now, some conversations that have happened around here lately....

Scott ordered this cart that is meant to haul duck decoys from the truck to the body of water and back again. It's supposed to really lighten the workload aspect of duck and goose hunting. The person who patented it is some sort of creative genius because he named it the Honker Hauler.

Last year, the Honker Hauler showed up on the porch via UPS, in pieces. Scott went to assemble the cart weeks later and there were some connecting pieces (screws and such) missing. He thinks he lost them somewhere along the line.
So for the last year, I've made fun of the Honker Hauler that doesn't actually haul anything, but just sits next to our shed. Every tome Scott loads his bag of hundreds of duck decoys into the bed of the truck I say, "Wow, too bad you don't have a cart-like device to move those things around for you." He doesn't find this amusing.

The other day, Scott said the breaker in the circuit box tripped in Laramie at the house. I asked how and he said...I was in the garage welding the goose cart together...
Me: You mean the Honker Hauler?
Him: Yes.
Me: You were welding it together because there's no screws?
Him: Yes.
Me: So the breaker tripped...
Him: Yes..
Me: Another problem caused by the Honker Hauler.
Him: ...yes.
Me: Another goose season without the Honker Hauler is coming.

I really think that, at this point, he's sorry he bought the Honker Hauler. I noticed that he still has the welding equipment sitting out because he's still planning to put this thing together for this winter.

(Click on the link up there if you want more information about the Honker Hauler. I can't look at their logo without laughing.)

----------------------------------------------------------

Me, trying to figure out what the letters are in the internet password at the house in Laramie:
Hey, what are these? Is that a "q"? I've tried this 3 times and it's not working.

Scott: They're all the letter a.

Those are NOT all the letter a

---------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday, I had to ride a bus to get somewhere for the first time ever. Our house in Laramie is next to one of the university bus stops. I grew up in a town without buses. I had a car in college. I never lived downtown-anywhere. Scott apparently takes the bus every day because it's free and is about a mile ride and then he doesn't have to look for parking twice a day. It makes a lot of sense unless you're country folk like me.

Him, coaching me: You walk to the bus stop. There will probably be other people waiting too. You get on the bus. It only goes to one place. You get off the bus when it stops.
Me: How much does it cost?
Him: It's free.
Me: Oh hmmm...
Him:...do you want me to show you how to get to the bus stop? (note: you can see it from our house)
Me: No, I think I'll be okay.

20 minutes later:
Him: So are you going to do this? I'm leaving now.
Me: Yeah, okay.

I felt a lot like Sheila leaving her house on Shameless, just because I never go anywhere like this. I drive places. Period.

State of affairs

Not a cat, but you get the idea.

I want to give a shout-out to Chewy.com.  I bought a toy for the dogs (because all available funds go toward pet food and treats in this house) and Jett had it ripped apart within an hour and there was this fluffy crap all over the floor.  Conveniently, I got an email from Chewy asking for a review the same day. I was pretty honest.  I got an email back from Chewy within a few days saying they were refunding me for the toy that didn't work out.  Then I replied back with a "Thank you!" email and THEY replied back within an hour and it was from a real person.  I was impressed.  If you are in need of pet supplies, Chewy.com is your best bet.  Heavy bags of dog food delivered right to your door? Yes, please.

So true.  And, the more I think about it, I think Breaking Bad might have been the greatest show ever written.  I want to say this about a few other shows too, but BB was consistent.  We can't say that about all the other shows I've obsessed over (cough, cough Dexter).

This was on Jana's blog and I immediately laughed and sent it to my friend.
--------------------------------------

I ordered this purse/tote from Nordstrom, it showed up on Thursday, and I immediately disliked it.  I mean, I didn't hate it but it doesn't suit my needs at the moment.  So back it goes.  When Scott came home and saw it sitting on the table, he's all "What's that?" and I told him it was a bag and he said it was ugly and then I told him I was sending it back because I "tried to go the cheaper route and it didn't work and now I'd have to do the expensive thing I'd been trying to avoid" and he just side-eyed me.

I'd been chatting about this with my teammate at school the same day (because I asked her where she had gotten her cute leather bag, obviously) and she told me she preferred to spend her disposable income on camping supplies.

I told this to Scott after he judged my decision above there and he was all, "Hmmm really?  Sounds like a nice girl."
---------------------------------------------------

Scott is hunting with the dogs, so I will be grading papers, getting a pedicure, going to Costco, meeting a friend for lunch, organizing the general state of affairs around here, and watching t.v.  No complaints.  At least grading papers makes me feel productive.
----------------------------------------

AND I'll be gearing up for tomorrow night's t.v. line-up.  Who watched Homeland last week?  Quinn, per usual, impressed me.  Carrie, as always, made me ache with disappointment.  I don't know why she's so unlikeable.

I think that's everything I have to tell you.  I think I'll be back Monday with Columbus Day stuff and maybe a recipe by Tuesday.  Cross your fingers.

Stuff and Things 8/27

Stuff, Things, etc.

+I kind of wanted to do a Stuff Scott Says post, but I kept forgetting to write stuff down.

+I will tell you that he laughs out loud when I watch Under the Dome.  He's the same person who used to watch Legend of the Seeker (if you've never heard of it that's because he's the only one who ever watched it). It was a sci-fi medieval kind of show.

+Scott to Scout: You are the Adam Levine of dogs.

+Scott to Jett: You are the Jack Black of dogs.

+And because I can truly think of nothing else worth explaining....

Dress: Gordman's // Sweater: Macy's (old) // Sandals: Target (brand-new and $8)

A kid tramped on my toe by accident last week.  My toenail is black and blue underneath the polish.  I wanted to scream, but I totally held it all inside.  Go me. I should stop wearing $8 sandals to school.  At least they're not flip-flops.  I draw the line somewhere.

Said by Scott

The good news is that Scott does have a cell phone on this deployment.  The bad news is that these are the text messages he often gets from me now.

So if that doesn't make you feel bad for me...

He doesn't leave the phone on all the time, so we don't get to talk all the time because of the time difference.  But it's nice for him to have as he travels.

---------------------------------------------------------

Listening to this song on the radio...
Scott: All you have to do to be a rapper is say things three times.
Me: Okay.
Scott:  Don't tell 'em, don't tell 'em, don't tell 'em... you ain't even gotta tell 'em.  See? Three times?
Me: Can we change this now?
----------------------------------------------------

A dog jumps onto the bed in the middle of the night.
Scott: Which one is it?
Me: I don't know.
Scott: Pet it.

Scout and Jett have very different fur and that's how you can tell them apart in the middle of the night.

--------------------------------------

Scott: What are you getting me at Costco?
Me: Salmon.
Scott: What kind of salmon?
Me: …pink.
Scott: …..
Me:  chum…
Scott:…..
Me:  Red.
Scott:  Otherwise known as…?
Me:  Sockeye.
Scott:  And none of that God awful Atlantic salmon.  Don't come home with that.

I was playing dumb there. There are 5 rankings of salmon. King/chinook, Silver/coho, Red/sockeye, Pink/humpback, Chum/dog. You don't want to actually eat the pink or the chum.  That's the stuff they make dog food out of.  You can take Kristin out of Alaska, but…

---------------------------------------

As we're driving out of the driveway with the dogs…
Scott speaking for Jett:
You never let me go anywhere.
Me:  Get in the back.
Scott speaking for Jett:
But there's so much to see!

----------------------------------------

On my birthday…
Scott: We're getting old.  Like, really old.
Me: Maybe you are.  You're older.
A few minutes later..
Scott: You know I'm only like 6 weeks older than you, right?  You're aware of that?
Me:  Different year.  You're much older.

Stuff and Things…said by Scott

Did you really buy 4 tubs of hummus?

This is coming from the person who will eat a whole tub in one sitting…
------------------------------

Me: I have crosswalk duty at school this week.  Would you trust me to direct traffic?
Scott: Not even a little bit.
------------------------------

Pretending Jett is mocking me….
Don't do this, don't do that.  Your paws are dirty.  Stop that.  Get down.  No.  I said no!  Don't jump on me.  Don't scratch me.  Don't eat poop.  Don't lay on my pillow.  Come, Jett.  Did I say come? Do you hear me?!
And then Jett's response:  Of course I heard you!

He does this voice and everything and makes the dog dance around.  I need to get it on video.   I don't even take offense.  It's all completely true.

-------------------------------

It's not that heavy, Kristin.

As I help him hoist the double oven into place.  The manual said it was 375 pounds.
-------------------------------

Sending a picture message to his friend…

"At the Dierks Bentley concert"

Me:  This isn't Dierks Bentley.  Those tickets would be like $200.

Him:  You paid how much for these tickets?!

Me:  This is BRANT-LEY GIL-BERT.

--------------------------------

Also at that concert…

You are the least country-dressed person here.

I'm too preppy for my taste in music.  Or maybe my taste in music is too country for my style?
Either way, TOMS aren't incredibly common at these kind of events.

Hiking in Pueblo and Stuff Scott Says

These pictures are from Lake Pueblo State Park.
They're unedited except for the "enhance" feature on iPhoto.

As I'm rewatching season 1 of Gossip Girl and he's already watched the finale with me so he knows who Gossip Girl is:
Scott:  So stupid.
Me:  It's all very interesting…
Scott:  And it was _______ the whole time?!  So dumb.  (walking away) XOXO, Gossip Girl.

As he puts ice into the homemade green tea, Scott makes a face.
Me: Does it taste bad?
Scott:  What?  Oh.  No. It's fine.
Me:  Why'd you make a face?
Scott:  Oh, you didn't see.  I spilled it. I was just waiting to get yelled at…you know, like how when Scout puts his ears back when he's in trouble.

As I'm sitting at my computer, trying to format my lesson plan template…for the 3rd time in the last few years.
Scott:  What are you doing?
Me: Being overwhelmed.
Scott:  It's a hard knock life for Kristin…it's a hard knock life for Kristin (goes back to nailing plywood into the floor)

When he couldn't find something…
Scott:  You threw them away, didn't you?
Me: No.  I don't see how I could've…
Scott:  You did because I saw them in the garbage and then I took them out because I knew you were going to throw them away.
Me:  Where did you put them when you took them out?
Scott:  Behind the garbage can.
Me:  That's a really dumb place to put something that's not garbage.  I probably thought they fell out and put them back in the can.

These are sneaker soles that we were discussing.

…and after the above conversation

Driving into the Home Depot parking lot…
Scott:  Oh, a Goodwill bin.  I'm gonna need that when I gather up all your stuff and drop it off tomorrow.
Me:  What?
Scott:  You throw away my stuff, I take yours.

Lake Pueblo State Park is south of Colorado Springs and it really feels like the desert.  The town of Pueblo is pretty booming…lots of stores, restaurants, little shops, and a river walk. We plan to explore it again now that we know where to go. When I think of all the places we've been, this is definitely a new kind of environment!
