1. You don't have to make sourdough. I let my starter go --it basically just lived in the fridge last spring and wasn't any good. My friend gave me an unconstituted starter over the summer to start anew. I finally attempted this last week. It didn't work. In fact, it grew mold! I had my other starter for over a year and it never did that. I decided I could try again but no. I can buy a loaf from Aldi for $3 each week. 

2. Speaking of Aldi: I don't like their food. Like, generally, I do not like shopping there. The Aldi in Missouri was a lot nicer than the Aldi here, too, so that probably has something to do with it. But I've always felt this way about Aldi. I can buy the staples: milk, butter, baking ingredients, whatever. I get the kids some snacks there. It's a lot cheaper for those things but I'm never excited about going there. I don't like their produce. It doesn't last. The bananas are always green and then they over-ripen overnight. So I bought a bunch of organic bananas last week because they were actually yellow and ...they over-ripened overnight. So they're in the fridge and maybe I'll make banana bread or maybe I'll toss them like the last bunch. Who can say...

I don't know what Walmart does to their produce but it's always the best bet. 

I think this is from the one in June. I mean, it worked: We don't have a king. Why are they protesting for something they already have?

I can't take women's rights advice from a self-proclaimed feminist who used her rights to go $100k in debt for an English degree (at best).

I've never been able to drink more than one sip of eggnog. 

I made sauce on the stove last week because I knew this would happen if I pulled out the crockpot. 

I saw a Facebook article that said "Deer are more active this time of year. Find out why.". Amateurs. 

I saw posts about how we should all be antifa. We're at the last stage here.

I don't know why this is funny. It's not funny-funny but it's comical in the sense that it looks like the apocalypse. Someone in the comments posted "This is what happens when it snows and gets cold at the same time. It's serious." And someone said "you mean winter?"

I did learn last week that the "best" games are for Thursday, Sunday, and Monday nights, followed by late Sunday afternoon. The "worst" games are sent overseas on purpose or have that 1pm eastern slot on Sundays. 

Exactly how it should be. 

Memes with stories

When Scott asks me to hand him his phone, I hesitate. I don't know which end is which, don't know what the side buttons do, and do not understand what any of the icons mean. 

The reverse on that meme that was like "imagine hating me and I'm just over here eating pickles". Like, no. I get it. 

I'm seeing a lot out there about the amazing test scores coming out of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Ohio. And then the people saying schools are responsible for teaching everything which some are arguing that no, parents are responsible. Here's the thing: schools are 100% responsible for teaching children academics. ...Until they're not. You see, a school will do everything they can but they can't get to everyone. It's not possible. When the school fails, you, the parent, do not get to blame the school. YOU are still responsible for your child. You need to advocate, find a tutor, ask questions, pull them out, homeschool, put them in a new school...do something. You are the one who will have to look your young adult in the eye some day and explain why they can't read, write, or do math proficiently. I'm not responsible for any of the kids I taught before or after the 9 months they were in my classroom. I am responsible for my own two kids. I don't know why people blaming schools can't quite wrap their heads around this. 

When I was in 4th grade, my town built a maximum security prison. Before it opened, we went there on a field trip and they locked our class in a cell just to prove a point (definitely didn't work for some of those kids).

FOIL is the extent of my math ability. Wells is moving along really fast in math right now and while I'm eager to push him, if I keep going, Scott is going to have to take over in two years. I can teach to algebra and not a math standard further than that. 

And they drink a lot, I bet.

I'm so behind right now. It's really hard to live far away from everyone you'd just like to sit down and talk to regularly.

Back when we just had Scout the dog: I will never forget when Scott was at school working on one of his masters' degrees (he had a small apartment that semester during the week, and Scout stayed with him) and Scout woke him up early one morning so Scott fed the dog and then was wide awake so was like "might as well go get some things at Walmart" right down the street. So he put Scout in the truck and off he went. He said it was so empty and quiet inside. He got back in the truck, looked at the clock on the dash, and it was 3am.

Post-babies, I started taking four 200 mg at once for headaches or aches and pains because That's How Many Mgs Are In One of Those Pills They Send You Home With From the Hospital. 

Scott thought I was insane. He takes one (1) 200 mg pill and wonders why he never feels better.
