How I ended up with an Emily Ley planner

I went to school looking a bit like a yoga teacher yesterday.  It was just a professional development day and I spent all afternoon cleaning out my closet.  They're almost as casual here as they were in Alaska.  The sweatshirt is PSU UnderArmour and was on clearance.  I couldn't pass it up.  Just like the Emily Ley planner I now have…but the planner was definitely not on clearance.

Last year, I was somehow directed to the Emily Ley website and I looked at their planners.  I was intrigued.  I already had my Erin Condren planner for the year but I was pulled in by the preppy design and beautiful layout of the Simplified Planner.

Obviously I didn't get one.  Besides, they were sold out.  I was almost amused by the fact that these planners sold out within weeks of going on sale.  Somehow I ended up on the mailing list (okay, I know how I ended up on the mailing list). I wondered what made them so special and expensive.

My Erin Condren planner ended over the summer so, for this year, I bought a $13 planner at Target back in June.  It's cute and all.

On September 1st, I got the notification email saying 2015 Emily Ley planners would be on sale September 3rd.

"That's nice", I thought.

On September 3rd, I just happened to be at a training where I was working on my personal laptop all day when I got the email saying they were officially ON SALE.

"Well, crap", I thought.

Before I knew it, I had ordered one.

When my coworker saw me ordering, she asked what it was and I explained.  Then she showed me her $7 planner.  She'd never heard of Emily Ley or Erin Condren.

"Yes, I used to be like you", I thought. "Then I got a blog and now I want new, shiny things all the time".

Thing that is both new and shiny.  Also, I can't make use of it for another 4 months..

What kind of planner do you have?

  1. haha! It looks very new and shiny indeed! My most recent planner I got for $1 at the dollar store back in the US. I can definitely see the appeal of these fancy schmancy planners...but thus far I choose to admire them from a distance...

  2. I love new & shiny things! Especially planners! I've been eyeballing a Kate Spade planner & the whole time that I've been drooling over it, I've been thinking, "Who the heck am I?!" But it's SO pretty! The only thing stopping me from ordering it is that I have a planner to last me til the end of this year & that one starts early! I don't want to waste either planner but don't want to use TWO planners for a few months, that'd just be silly. *sigh*
I love the Emily Ley planners though! They're so pretty but simple!

  3. I read this while still laying in bed this morning and literally said out loud "I won't be sucked down that rabbit hole again." J was like "huh? what?" haha! I had a love/hate relationship with my EC planner (that thing was MASSIVE)! And made the decision about 2 months into it that I wouldn't repurchase even though it was OH SO PRETTY. I think I feel the same about the emily ley planners. They're SO FREAKING GORGEOUS and sparkly and shiny and all things I love--but for my daily life, my $7 planner just works best for me.

  4. Is Emily cheaper than Erin? Because I have been wanting an Erin, just can't justify Erin's price.

  5. I have an Emily Ley planner. I'll be honest, for the first couple months I wasn't a huge fan. Mainly because my schedule was super boring and I had nothing to write. But once I got closer to our summer PCS? I fell in love. I'm totally on the Emily Ley bandwagon. I need to order my 2015 one, thanks for the reminder!

  6. I don't really use a planner all that much, so I usually just buy a really cheap one that I can shove in my purse and I don't care if it looks like crap after a while from being knocked around. Neither Emily Ley nor Erin Condren are my style at all, but one of these years I might spring for a Day Designer.

I just cannot justify $60 for a planner I use a few times a month!

  7. I haven't heard of her.

I switched from Erin Condren to Plum Paper this year. It arrived this weekend and I cannot WAIT to use it.

I use my planner every day except vacation days (and sometimes even then) so the higher price is worth it to me.

  8. I love my Erin Condren planner!

  9. I have always used the My Agenda planners - LOVE them so much more then the Erin Condren - not as bulky...

but I have been using a Bullet Journal, you make it yourself using a Moleskin journal with graphs... I'm going to do a vlog on it - LOVE IT!

  10. I have seen Emily Ley's planner on others IG accounts, but don't know much about them...I need to look at her site!

  11. For years I tried to do everything electronically but I failed miserably at it. I'm back to paper planners. I'm a fan of the Poppin planners here:

  12. I love your new planner, and your hoodie. I really want to buy a new planner specifically for homeschool stuff but right now, I can't cough up the fifty bucks for a new Erin Condren.

  13. ""Yes, I used to be like you", I thought. "Then I got a blog and now I want new, shiny things all the time"." <<<< Yes that. #sososotrue
