A kitchen update because…

Scott read my blog last night (is there anything more awkward?) and decided that I wasn't doing the kitchen justice by posting things like this and then not posting updated pictures.  I said I was saving it for a big reveal.  He thinks that's not the best way to go about it.  "It is on the internet!", I wanted to shout.  I took these pictures last night, so excuse the lighting. Here's what we have going on this week after ripping out appliances 2 weeks ago…

This will be the island as soon as the countertops come in.  We're also going to put a butcher-block bar on it.

The new oven(s) is fantastic and so is the sink.  These cupboards still need to be painted and built up around the oven.  I'm not in a huge hurry to get rid of the dishwasher, as this one works really well.  We also still need to think about the backsplash.

Induction cooktop.  There will be a bit of storage underneath it in the form of draws with hinges (for small things like spices) but regular drawers won't fit anymore.

We added this corner cupboard and are going to put a bottom piece in too, with a microwave.  This house doesn't have one yet.

This is what the kitchen looked like when we moved in.

And I was actually going to do a living room before and after post this week, but I was waiting for the good light for photos and didn't get around to taking pictures this afternoon.

The table is in the living room right now, but oh well.  The floor is done in the living room and the trim (most of it) is back on the walls.

Remember what the living room looked like before?

Maybe it doesn't seem that bad, but that carpet was 18 different kinds of gross.

  1. how fun! I can't wait until I have a house someday to re-do. We are renting right now and it isn't quite as fun to decorate :)

  2. I can definitely tell that that kitchen is going to be awesome when you're done! Plenty of room to cook and bake as much as you want! I've always been partial to kitchens with islands but I've never had one...

  3. I feel that old owners of homes should have to replace carpets automatically. It should be part of the deal when you buy the house because ALL carpets are super gross. It all looks great!

  4. When we first got married (pre-football reality) J had a dream of moving into a house and flipping it while we lived there. I had hesitations (I like order. I like move in ready). I just don't think I could ever do this. Especially not with the schedule he keeps--we'd live in disarray for years haha! I can see how amazing it'll all be when it's over!!

  5. I'm with you, I'd do big reveal. I always think only I can see the progress. Things are looking great. I am so jealous of the double oven! That's on my wish list.

  6. Your kitchen is looking sooo much better!! I'm slightly jealous of your giant farmhouse sink, we just have one of those old fashioned stainless steel double sinks, which is fine, but it's not very deep at all and it kinda drives me crazy. A nice huge sink is definitely on my wish list someday. In the meantime - living vicariously through yours! Love the island, too!!
