I can't believe it's been a year

Scott came back from Afghanistan one year ago.

The first time time he's left since then, for more than a couple of days, was this past week when he went on a hunting trip.  He took the dog too, so I was alone for the first time in...a very long time.

It was different.

I ate quesadillas for dinner.  I went to work.  I went to the gym.  I spent the weekend shopping, crafting, and reading.  All by myself.  I didn't have a whole lot of human interaction and it reminded me of something...

Oh, right.  It reminded me of 2012.

I had no responsibilities.  The house got awfully messy.

I went to Target and I spent probably an hour just browsing and, I'll have you know, I have no particular attachment to that store other than it was the place I used to go to make myself feel better.  Before 2012, I never went to Target for much of anything.  It became my oasis.  My happy place.  I would always leave there feeling a little better than when I arrived.

Now, obviously, I had to spend money there on Satruday.  I started my Christmas shopping.  I bought stuff for school.  And food too.  And a dog toy.  And really now, who knows when I'll get a chance to go back, so pretty much everything I picked up went into my cart.

Anyway, it was a good weekend.  It was nice to be by myself, but it was even better to know that I'd have my family back by the time the weekend was over.

I got all hopped up on moscato and candy corn and started crafting.

I monogrammed a fake pumpkin with felt.

I also started making some Christmas decorations.

I bought a turkey for $8.  He was on sale.

A new wreath (wrapped with yarn by my mom)

...to go with the one I made last year

And it was beautiful weather all weekend long!

Thank goodness it's Friday again.

  1. It's amazing how fast the time goes after they come home. We are coming up on 2 years since Kyle came home.

  3. It's nice having your little family around, isn't it! I'm always the one to go away and leave Angel home alone due to my family's crazy traveling and lifestyle...and it looks like I might be going away for 3 weeks later this winter. He uses my absences as a good excuse to eat fast food. I would probably try to live off of apples and popcorn if I didn't have a husband to cook for...quesadillas might be okay too...

  5. I love your $8.00 turkey!

I love it when Isaiah isn't home for dinner. I hate eating "dinner". I'm much more of a snack food type person. I'd eat sourdough toast and applesauce for dinner every single night if he would allow it...

  6. I think that sounds like a wonderful weekend. I rarely get time without Craig now that he switched jobs. Sometimes I do miss my alone time.(not that I want him gone for any period of time longer than like 2 hours...)
