When someone says they prefer Army Wives to Game of Thrones:
*I don't like Army Wives.
Since we no longer have to pay for our internet by "data usage", we joined the real world and can now stream Netflix. The first movie we watched the other night was Friends with Kids. I heard that a lot of people didn't like it, and I think that's because it was expected to be chick-flicky, like Something Borrowed. It wasn't. It was good and I actually found myself tearing up toward the end.
I've started using Pro-Activ again. Humidity is not kind to my skin. But, last summer, my skin (especially my legs) was so itchy and dry that it would wake me up in the middle of the night. I'd rather deal with the humidity, thankyouverymuch.
I've been reading. I've been feeling drawn to non-fiction lately. And I'm just hopping back on this reading bandwagon after 3 years of little to no decent library access.
1. I didn't finish the first one. The writing style just didn't do it for me. I expected it to be a manual of sorts. It was a strung-together collection of experiences.
2. I'm still working on the second one. It's pretty scientific, but interesting. Especially for anyone interested in personal training.
3. Push is written by the creator of Turbokick. She's got her ish together, if you know what I mean. It was interesting, but more like a self-help book. I really enjoyed reading about her meals/diet because she leads such an active lifestyle, but she lost me when she started talking about how she likes sugar-free Jello as a treat. Holy chemicals, Chalene.
I'm also reading Gretchen Rubin's follow-up to The Happiness Project, which is called Happier at Home. It's full of ideas!
Recommendations for books?
They farm these things in the Grand Cayman. The one in our soup was caught in a swamp.
I'm kind of over this tornado stuff. It's exhausting to be vigilant.
I couldn't even tell you which county I belong to up there ^
It amazes me whenever anyone watches anything other than Game of Thrones. It's by far the best show on tv right now. I can't believe there's only one more episode left in the season and that last night's ended the way it did. That part of the story seriously can't end like that...can it? I knew I should have read the darn books.
ReplyDeleteStill have only seen season 1 of Game of Thrones. But I know what happened last night and it's just sad! That's what the author does, though. That's what he's known for...
ReplyDeleteIt makes me kinda angry. Like the last season of Downton Abbey!
I really liked Friends with Kids, the kids who have the baby together {I can't think of their names?!} I love them both! Did you know she has been with Jon Hamm for 15+ years, I love her even more for it. I don't watch Game of Thrones but saw a TON of fb posts about it last night, lol.
ReplyDeleteFriend with Kids is such an amazing movie!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are Pulaski County ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm done with storms too...but it was fun chatting on twitter with all the warnings the other night!
I'm on a nonfiction kick too! Check out Far from the Tree, by Andrew Solomon. It's pretty long (about 800 pages), but it's incredibly interesting. It's about families affected by deafness, down syndrome, schizophrenia, and a bunch more of what the author calls "horizontal identities. I wouldn't call it light reading, but I'd definitely recommend it!
ReplyDeleteWait there's turtle soup and it's good?
ReplyDeleteI've really wanted to read the happiness project. I have never wanted to eat turtle soup.
ReplyDeleteI'm all about fiction, always. Although I kinda want to read The Happiness Project. And tornadoes. Ugh! Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I sometimes watch Army Wives instead of Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones is something I watch with my husband so when he's busy, I watch my shows. I knew something like what happened would happen because everyone was talking about GoT on Facebook! Somehow I didn't cry.
ReplyDeleteI can't help you with books. Just about everything I read is fiction.
Don't hate me, but I love "Army Wives." I also like "Game of Thrones," but since I don't have access to HBO, I haven't seen a bit of this season.
ReplyDeleteFriends with Kids is one of my favorite movies, actually. But I heard that too, that a lot of folks didn't care for it (I think you're probably right about their expectations being for something entirely different). I love it though - or maybe I just love Adam Scott, who's to say?
