What's Up...August 2023

Instead of rolling the dice that I'll post this on Wednesday, I'm posting today as a round-up of the last two weeks.

And honestly, it's not you, it's me. I'm the problem. The hot weather is the problem. Last week was like minute to minute in this part of the country. They didn't even feel good about kids riding school buses; that's how hot it was. We had to make sure they had full water bottles before they boarded the buses. The absolute privilege of living with a/c and working in a/c was not lost on me. I'd go outside and I felt like my skin was going to burn off.

When it gets really hot or really cold, I check out. It's a psychological thing and it can make me feel panicky. Fun right? I would not have survived two hundred years ago.

Moving on.

What we're eating this week:

Did you hear me talk about the weather? I'd be perfectly happy to eat nothing but alas dinners have been cooked.

Here's what Sutton has been eating for lunch, though. I pack her little lunch every day and I don't actually mind doing it. She usually eats it. Wells has been eating school lunch because it's easier for me and he'll eat just about anything.

What I'm loving:

Wells is still pretty easy to placate. He wanted to go to a pool party this weekend there were multiple reasons why that was just not going to happen (Sutton, I didn't know the kid, also Sutton) ...he was sad, he told me, because it meant he wouldn't get any cake. So I told him we'd bake a cake. Problem resolved.

What I've been up to:

I took both kids with me to Costco on Saturday. This was not something I intended to do, but we were close to one and I lost my Costco card at some point in the last 6 months. I can't find it anywhere. So I made it a point to stop and get a new one, and then also got a few things.  (again, this took me 6 months to do...Costco is 90 minutes away, for reference)

What I'm dreading:

More hot weather next week. Everyone's drinking their PSLs and I'm just not in the mood for fall unless it's slightly fall-like.

What I've been working on:

Mostly honing my organizational abilities. Getting out the door in the morning with 4-5 bags and carrying them all in one trip. I'm getting better at it.

What I'm excited about:

#fall

What I'm watching/reading:

Still watching Suits! Is there no greater enemy than a vindictive woman from the U.S. Attorney's office? I think not.

Waiting for football to really start back up.

In case you missed it, I have book reviews from the summer posted last week (or the week before). There's some good ones there!

What I'm listening to:

Mostly a hybrid station I've managed to curate on Pandora that is half N'sync, half Morgan Wallen.

What I'm wearing:

This is the Cali dress from Carly Jean Los Angeles. It's from last summer but is a heavier material so it's great for fall and it has pockets. I'd just gotten home from church which is why my sunglasses are still on...

Look. It's a real feel of 110+ degrees most days this month. I was told that "You can wear jeans on Fridays!". Well, it was 89* at 7am on Friday and this is why I'm not wearing jeans on Fridays until the snow flies:

Otherwise, It's been a hectic two weeks so I haven't take photos. Basically it's sheath dresses and t-shirt dresses with sandals or white sneakers. I did get these and they were a bit of a splurge but they're super comfy and a good compromise if you want something between a Ked and a Nike.

A few things: I don't think I can get on board with non-skinny jeans. I've tried 3 or 4 pairs of looser jeans at this point and none of them are super flattering and they don't provide that comfort factor either so why bother? For me, it's not worth the trade-off. I might try one more pair. These were the most recent. The 1s were too small, so I'm going to try a bigger size and then maybe wash my hands of the whole thing and go back to my Madewell skinny jeans because they have been my only reliable pair in the last few years. I've also discovered that while Tencel may make jeans comfy, it also makes them stretchy and few things are worse in the world of clothing than jeans that won't stay up after you have them on for an hour. I have two pairs of Target jeans and then a pair of Madewell Tencel ones I'm looking to get rid of. None hold their shape the way I want.

What I'm doing this weekend:

I was going to pull out the fall decorations but I might wait another week.

What I'm looking forward to next month:
