5 Friday Favorites

1. We bought Wells' Halloween candy from him with the change jar. He got the whole thing. It took some explaining and I expect a full meltdown this afternoon when he asks for candy after school.

I don't care. He learned about candy at preschool and now he sees it as a thing he can have all the time and he also discovered ginger ale and gatorade and chocolate milk this fall. The other part is that I have felt worthless at the end of each day for the last 3 months so I've given into basically whatever he wants so he'll just go sit and play quietly. But now it's time to rip the band-aid off: no more candy or popsicles or drinks that aren't milk or water when he's here. It's exhausting to keep up with this.

2. The back half of the roof is done. I'll explain in greater detail why we had to replace the roof on a house that was supposedly inspected and cleared by a home inspector 5 months ago. But Scott did half this fall and will do the front half in the spring just because of the sheer effort and time commitment.

3. I had an "add to cart" moment the other day. I love Alaska Chicks products. I follow them on Facebook so I get all the ads and I haven't bought anything in years. The headband I bought in 2011 served me for a decade (it's...somewhere). So I grabbed a hat the other day. I've already been wearing a winter coat more often than not because why be cold if I don't have to? I haven't received it yet, but I have high hopes.

4. Good news for education in the state of Virginia! I have nothing to do with VA but it's reassuring to know that parents are mobilized and activated against the teacher unions and school boards that are trying to shut them out. I could talk about this all day, really.

Truly, I don't know if the damage can be undone at this point, but the fact that no one is willing to self-reflect and try to undo it is telling. Instead, they all doubled-down harder on mandates and blame-shifting this week.

5. Lastly, thanks for all your kind words! Especially on Instagram, I love that I have such friendly and kind internet friends.

  1. I agree with you 100%! Continued prayers for our country. We're especially blessed in Florida as our leadership has supported parents and students and our desire to retain our freedom! Thanks for your posts, as I always look forward to reading them.

    1. Who’s free? The country? The parents to make decisions? You’re no-reply so if you see this, can you explain?
