2 December books and 2020 Reading Goals.

I read two books in December, bringing my book total for the year to 47. I will totally take that.
I am an all-or-nothing kinda reader during this season of life. If I find a book I like, I devour it. If I don't like it, I take it back to the library ASAP. Someone else might be waiting for it.

I wish I could find more middle ground, but this first book is a good example of my reading personality: I read the first 5 or 6 chapters slowly, over a few days and it didn't completely pull me in. Then, it got so compelling that I finished it in one morning. I couldn't put it down.

And then my only non-fiction read of 2019:

He committed suicide pre-trial. He'd warned them he would and they didn't watch him closely.

I cannot say enough good things about this book if you like true crime. I haven't read a true crime book that I can recall in recent years. I just generally don't feel myself drawn to the genre, even if I do watch the Netflix documentaries that are always in this realm.

I think profilers and detectives will be studying this case for years. It's Dexter-level, if Dexter had been truly evil.

I did set a reading goal on Goodreads for the first time in a couple of years. I picked 48 because it's one more than what I read in 2019. I would say "4 books a month" but some months I read no books and some months I read 12 books. Let's hope it all evens out.

Did you set a 2020 reading goal?

Linking up with Jana and Steph!

  1. I really do want to read American Predator- so crazy! I'm fascinated by true crime.

  2. I just wrote out a long comment but it seems to have disappeared- ARGH! The gist was that I've only read one other true crime book (Michelle McNamara's about The Golden State Killer), which I loved even though I didn't expect to, so I'm definitely adding this one. I also love your description of the cops "Epstein'ed" the case, especially since I just watch the Jeffrey Epstein doc the other day. Good luck reaching your GR goal!

  3. hmm, i'm not really drawn to true crime books but that one does sound interesting!

  4. I loved the other woman I will have to check out American Predator.

  5. I just finished The Other Woman myself... I totally called it early on. maybe because I knew a twist was coming. I was into it though

  6. I want to read True Crime so thanks for this!

  7. I used to read a lot more true crime than I do now. For some reason I have an easier time processing that information via show or documentary than book.

  8. I'm all about American Predator! I saw your IG post on it and was all in!

  9. I am 100% into true crime and will 100% be adding American Predator to my TBR.

  10. The true crime book sounds compelling! I did set a reading goal. I'm like you and just added one to last year's total. So 88 books is what I'm shooting for. :)

  11. I will definitely look for American Predator - I'm drawn to all things Alaska anyway. Have you read any by Dana Stabenow (her Kate Shugak series)?

Comments make my day!
