Christmas Cards 2016

Last year, I went on this whole tirade about how I'm exhausted just thinking about the Christmas card competition that seems to happen each year. Like, WHY? Why do we insist on spending hundreds of dollars on Christmas cards that I (to be honest) just throw away come January. I don't even know if I've kept all of our own cards over the last few years.

However, I did feel like sending out a picture this year just to prove that we went into 2016 with deployment on the horizon, and then we came out the other side.
I took a picture from the deployment homecoming in mid-November, put it on some plaid via Shutterfly, ordered 25 of them, and called it a day. It actually arrived on my doorstep early which was nice. Shutterfly was having a fantastic sale on Thanksgiving weekend, so that worked out in my favor too.
(No one sponsored this post, so I don't a fancy byline or subtitle happening here.)

Where do you get your Christmas cards? What kind did you go with this year?

  2. I always do a card. Sometimes I'm like whyyy but mostly I like to reach out and just sort of say hello via mail once a year. I jump around where I get them depending on who has what sale/design. This year I used Tiny Prints.

  5. I send regular ol' Christmas cards you buy in a box add a personalized message on the inside and call it a day. Maybe when I have a husband or kids I'll get into the photo card trend but until then I don't think I need to send out cards featuring a photo of me and my cat.

  6. I like doing cards, mostly just because snail mail is such a dying concept and I like letting people know I'm thinking of them. We usually mail out between 20-30 cards, even though we usually only get like, three cards in the mail ourselves, and normally they're all from blog friends. We usually do Tiny Prints or Shutterfly but wait to order until they're doing a good sale or I get a coupon in the mail.

  7. I do a card, but I never order more than 50, so it doesn't cost too much when you factor in Shutterfly's sales. I do keep the ones we receive. I made a book out of them all last year, so I'll hole punch this years and add them to it.

  9. I did ours through Sam's again this year. Great price for a good amount. Haven't received much this year but a lot could be waiting for our new address

  10. I was SO glad for the Shutterfly deals over Thanksgiving because I would've spent an INSANE amount on cards this year. (I needed 75). Interestingly enough, they only sent me 66, and 5 of them were crumpled. I called and complained, and they said they would send me 10 more to cover the damaged cards and the missing ones. Yesterday, I came home to 75 more cards on my door step. I'm going to have WAY too many now! I'm adding some people that I don't actually have to mail to because honestly, postage is an added expense to the whole thing!

  11. Aww, I love your card! We just did exactly 20 cards this year. I love mail, so even if the whole tradition of Christmas cards entirely goes away, I don't think I'll give it up, ha!

  12. I got on this kick several years ago about buying Christmas cards when they went on sale after Christmas. Well, during my house purge in 2014, I discovered that I had 7 boxes of unopened Christmas cards. I gave 2 boxes to my mom, used 2 the past two years, and have 3 left. My choices this year (because I haven't filled them out yet) are: 2 different styles of kids holding hands around a globe (Unicef) or a boy dragging a Christmas tree through the snow with his puppy.

    Your card is super cute!

  13. Awwwww that picture is definitely worth sharing on a card.
Since moving here, I buy Australian themed Christmas cards. Cheesy & silly? Yes, but I like them.
Prior to that, I always ordered my cards from MD Anderson's Children's Art Project. The art is drawn by children being treated for cancer at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. Since I don't buy the cards anymore, every year I give my parents an ornament or a cute note pad or some other gift from this organization.

  14. I order mine through Cardstore. There's almost always some kind of special going on. And by ordering, I earn points to redeem for further savings. Their delivery is super fast too.
