Onto books...

The Best of 2015....in 2015, I read over 70 books.  That was up from last year's goal. in 2014, I set a goal of 36 and read 52. This year, my goal had been 70. It's possible, obviously, for me to readreadread when I want to or when I have time to, but it stresses me out. I don't know why. It's probably my upholder tendency and the idea of "tightening" that does it. Therefore, for 2016, I'm not setting a number.
Wait, that might be worse than not having an achieveable goal at all; I might try to beat my record and stress myself out even more.
I'm not sure how to go about this when I'm trying to find balance...thoughts?  Do you set reading goals?

-------------------------------------------------------
These were my favorites and you can read more in this post.

The Sea of Tranquility-Quite possibly the most beautifully written book that I've come across.
One Plus One-My favorite Jojo Moyes book. Flawed characters and a great story.
Better Than Before-Self-help in figuring out why you do what you do.
The Girl on the Train-I really liked it. Nice and suspenseful. I recommend the audiobook...it was really well done.
Coming Clean-A fantastic memoir about growing up in a hoarder household. I still shudder at some of the details.
The Storyteller-Terrific historical fiction. So many layers, even for a Picoult.

What was the best book you read in 2015?

  3. I was commenting on reading goals on another blog in the linkup - I like to set a number to see where I fall - sometimes I'm over, under, or right around. If I think of it as a game of estimation, I don't feel pressure from it. I do like tracking how many I've read in a year.

The Girl on the Train was edged off of my list but I definitely enjoyed the suspense - it's an overlooked art form.

  4. The Girl on the Train was AMAZING! I recommend it to all of my friends haha I've heard great things about One Plus One, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Maybe in 2016 :)

  5. The Sea of Tranquility is everywhere, and it's going to be a priority read of mine next year! It sounds like such an amazing book! I loved Girl on the Train this year too, it was such a great and suspenseful read!

  6. The Sea of Tranquility was also my favorite read of 2015! The Storyteller is definitely on my "to read" list.

  7. Although I enjoyed The Girl on the Train, that book made me crazy. Rachel pissed me off all the time, and Anna, constantly whining about Rachel and the baby... ugh! But the ending!!! :)

  8. One Plus One is definitely my favorite Moyes's book. There was just something about it. Like some others, it was long listed for my favorites of the year but I had to cut somewhere.

I need to read The Sea of Tranquility. So many people whose opinions I generally agree with have raved about it. And YES to The Storyteller! One of her best ever.

  10. I like setting reading goals, mostly because for me it's just a good reminder that I need to actually read sometimes and not always fall back on Netflix. I aim low, though...for 2015 I set a goal of 10 books (less than one per month, haha) and ended up reading 15. Go me! Haha. Next year I'll aim a little higher.

On your list, I've only read Girl on the Train and Coming Clean. The first was underwhelming to me...I had it figured out too fast and that makes the rest of the book not that exciting. The second was fascinating. I'm still thinking about that book, months later.

  11. seriously. this is the most ridiculous thing to stress over but i am stressing over it as well. my goal was 150 this year and i got it but it was stressful and i don't want to do that again. i thought of not setting a goal at all, but then i will probably aim for 150. then i thought of going low (for me) and doing like 50 but then i want it to be a challenge still, so maybe 100? who knows lol

i've seen coming clean before but i don't know if i want to read it... that probably doesn't make sense. it sounds interesting though.

i loved one plus one and the sea of tranquility, but you know that :) i really enjoyed the storyteller as well.

  14. Maybe set a number that you know is attainable, but that won't stress you out. This way you'll have something to work toward, but you won't stress out if you are super busy and can't read!

I like having a goal even though I would read with or without one! :)

  15. 70 books is amazing! I loved One Plus One too! One of my favorite books, just slightly behind Me Before You for me.

  16. I picked up The Pact by Picoult at a secondhand bookstore so that should be my next of hers. I have heard great things about The Storyteller as well. That will be soon to come.

  17. One Plus One is on my list, too! I feel the same way about the goal. I set mine way under for 2016 in hopes that I can surpass it and reset it later in the year. I don't like feeling like I failed!

  18. Thanks for this list! And WOW! I'm super impressed, that is a HUGE amount of books to go through in one year! If I can read at least half of that I'd be proud for 2016! XO
