Truths.

Truth.  I've unfollowed teachers on Twitter who constantly complain about their jobs.  I know I've complained about aspects of teaching before (who hasn't?).  But I would hope that I never took to Twitter and whined about how annoying it was to have to go to professional development.  Perhaps I've thought it, or said, "It's a shame the kids have Veterans' Day off and teachers don't."  But I don't recollect tweeting about how boring it was.  If you're that brilliant, you deserve to have your administrator find it.

Truth.  When it comes to shopping, I must be stopped.  I spent Saturday in Marshall's and Target.  I really think I'm making up for lost time.  Most of what I've purchased since we've been here has come from Marshall's/Homegoods.

It used to be that I could only go to Homegoods when I was visiting the lower 48.  I made those trips count (just like the ones to Trader Joe's).  I recall a weekend in Los Angeles...buying plates at Marshalls/Homegoods and stuffing them into my suitcase, wrapped in clean clothes. I got a collander too, and I remember getting into an argument with Scott because he "knew this would happen" and why didn't I "bring the big red suitcase!" instead of the more appropriate (smaller) black one that was better suited for a weekend trip.  Don't worry.  We managed to get it all back to Alaska.

This week, I bought curtains.
They're a teal-ish color.

Last week, I bought this picture frame that highlights some of my favorite pictures from the last few years.

Clockwise: End of deployment #1 (2/24/10), battalion ball (5/10), one of our last pictures together in Alaska (3/13), end of deployment #2 (11/2/13).

Truth.  I miss my Target.  That's right.  MY Target.  The one in Wasilla that I knew like the back of my hand.  I would say that I could find a new Target to call my own...but 45 minutes is too far away for such nonsense.

Truth.  I wore jeans again.
Sweater: Loft // Tank: Kohl's // Jeans: JCP // Sandals: Old Navy
(I am planning on wear these sandals to death..in case you were wondering. Gotta get my $19 worth.)

Truth.  I really liked this article that Sar shared earlier this week.

4. When people ask you to hang out, you weigh the advantages of a night out with friends with the desire to spend some time alone. Your decision as to whether to accept the invitation depends on which option you’d prefer at that moment. This isn’t that hard to understand.

Truth.  Skirtember starts next week!  Get your dresses and skirts ready!  I bought a $15 adorable polka dot dress at Ross' the other day...on my way out of Marshall's.

  1. I think the worst part of pd is when I can think of zero ways it will work in my class or when we can tell there is trainings for the math and language arts teachers so they throw something together for everyone else and it isn't really worthwhile. Yesterday's was pretty good :)

Oh I also hate it when there are no snacks

  4. I LOVE HomeGoods but every time I've gone lately it hasn't had anything I'm looking for! It's kind of sad. I really like your curtains, it seems like curtains are always the last thing to go up in our house and I'm on the hunt for some new ones!

  5. Wow. Teachers actually complaining that the have to help out children? What selfish asses. That's not cool at all!

I haven't been to Target in ages. I need to go. Argh!

  6. I unfollow twitter complainers in general. I know we all do it sometimes--but I'm talking about those people who never tweet ANYTHING without it coming out as a whine/complaint. I wish I could shop. Even if/when stores are nearby I have a hard time actually pulling the trigger on anything. I'm that girl with a cart full who eventually puts everything back and walks out with nothing. Which is probably why our widows are still plain blinds ha. I LOVE the curtains you got!!

  7. I'm starting to think I could run the education dept here in MO better than the ones who run it - and that's my complaint of the day. I have to take a class to get my certificate valid again (it expired in June as I'm not a career one yet) and when I contacted them about taking a class through Truman State here in STL, the lady responded with, "it has to be a degree awarding university to be valid." So I wrote back, "well isn't that what Truman is?" because if not then no one needs to enroll there and she replies, "well yes but you didn't say Truman State, you only said Truman, that could mean anything Truman here in MO."

    Head to desk...

I have been waiting to change my name on my cert too until I got this class done with. I can only imagine them telling me I have to get married first before I do that - oh wait I already am :/

  8. The view out that window looks beautiful. I would really love to put up curtains, but we rent. And when we moved, I had to relearn the Target layout here. It's just enough different that I still wander around looking for one stupid thing two months after moving here.

  9. I went shopping yesterday (at a thrift store) in search of dresses/skirts and shorts/pants. I walked out with 7 shirts. Grr. They're cute, though. ;)

  10. When we moved - I missed MY Target too - none feel the same. When you know where they hide the clearance stuff & all that useful info :)

I wore a skirt every day last week as a warm up to Skirtember :)

  12. My brother works in a district where people were complaining about losing their February vacation this past year due to Hurricane Sandy (when we had to shut schools for a week to a week and a half). And some administrator found it and they all got in DEEP TROUBLE! We all have the right to bitch/vent...just don't take it that far!

  13. Any time I go into any kind of a large store these days, I feel completely overwhelmed and irritated with the crowds. I need to get out of here and get my city-girl attitude back.

I'm already plotting a few outfits for Skirtember...!

  14. The one about teachers-- yup yup and yup!

I just think, "if you were MY child's teacher, I'd hate you" or something along those lines.
But seriously-- people are stupid! You'd better believe if I saw Fin's teacher tweet something nasty, I'd FLIP!

  15. I admit it can be hard to give up a Saturday or a day off to go to a conference or inservice but as a teacher...or at any profession, really...why would you not want to learn how to be better at your job?

  16. Well, I guess I shouldn't tell you that I'm sitting in a boring training about brain injuries right now, right?

    Oops.

Good news is I get to rad my blogs now so I can actually converse with my husband when I get home. :)

I'm SUPER excited for Skirtember. I'm not wearing skirts this week to be sure I can stretch out my skirt/dress collection for as long as possible! :)

  17. I got myself a skirt at Target to kick off Skirtember!

  18. Yeah, it doesn't really seem a good idea to constantly complain about what you get paid to do on public social media....
And! Ever since moving away from my parents, I've missed "my mall". I like shopping, but other malls will never be the same as the one I grew up knowing like the back of my hand.

  19. I have a shopping problem as well, and it's all about Target haha.
