Scott is done today and should be home tomorrow and we're *planning* on leaving for Pennsylvania on Friday. Therefore, I didn't set up a tree or anything here, but I did put up all my usual decorations. I didn't go all-out with baking because I don't feel like hauling it all with us, but I did make a few things. Fudge, some cookies, etc.
All the gifts are ready to be transported as well and, weather-permitting, we should be there by Christmas. However, the best laid plans and all. We'll see how the rest of the week goes before I can make any promises.
I spent Friday night watching reruns and doing laundry and I played around with my new pencil sharpener because I'm just that much fun.
Saturday, I was up early to get to the post office. I said my goal last week was to go to the post office. I did not. I drove by twice, saw cars double-parked in the street and drove away quickly. Nothankyou. I took a book and stood in line for a very long time...about 30 minutes. After that I picked up just a few things at the commissary, waiting in the self-checkout line for about 15 minutes, and then went to the car wash and waited in line for well over 20 minutes. I stopped at Wal-Mart for a Christmas shirt, waiting in the self-checkout line for at least a few minutes. I went to Panda Express on my way home and waited in line for at least 20 minutes there.
I spent Sunday baking cookies to use up all the eggs and then graded papers for most of the day in between batches. I watched parts of the Steelers game and that wasn't a great time either.
I did get some things done around the house so that's a plus. I needed a weekend to do absolutely nothing but take care of tasks.
We have a busy week ahead and I just need to remember to take deep breaths.

I got this from a student last week, so I couldn't not share.
Scott is turning in his final project today so I sent him this picture as some motivation.
I can't even.

If you need some inspiration about "surviving" the holidays, this is a good, quick read. It's not about "surviving" at all. It reminds me of what I've said about getting through deployments and tough times in the past. Getting through can be the opposite of easy, but we owe it to ourselves to make the best of any situation, I suppose.

Linking up with Biana!
I had to mail a few packages last week and thought the UPS store would be less crazy than the post office-- it was, but their credit card machine was broken, soo I ended up having to go to the post office anyway! Thankfully it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I love the stamps you picked up and it sounds like you had a productive weekend! I hope you guys have a great time in Pennsylvania and a wonderful Christmas!
ReplyDeleteugh the post office is the WORST this time of year. i always try to get there 5mins before it opens bcause i hate the crowds.
ReplyDeleteThe 21st? That's just weird.
ReplyDeleteI went to the post office at lunch, stood there for 39 minutes & still didny, make it to the front.,forget that
Never commented on your blog before, but...That little quick read you recommended...Was just what I needed today... Puts a new perspective on things!! thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you!!
ReplyDeleteWait, what part of Pennsylvania are you from? I from the Allentown area. Near Philadelphia. And I went to college out west in Clarion, PA. Are you guys driving from Colorado? What kind of cookies did you make? Love Panda Express! Yum, yum. I love that 'Smarty-Pants Pup' ... haha so funny and random!
ReplyDeleteSmarty Pants Pup is pretty much the best haha!
ReplyDeleteWe are traveling on Friday, too - may all our travels go smoothly!
ReplyDeleteI love smarty pants pup.
The 21st?? Is there a reason you're in school that close to Christmas? My sister is at a private school, so it's probably different for that reason alone, but she's out this whole week and all of next week, too. They don't go back until January.
