I set a goal for 36 books in 2024 (3 per month) and I did not overachieve. I read exactly 36 and then didn't finish a lot in December. I'm currently part way through at least 10 books so we'll see what January looks like.
Onto my favorites:
Nonfiction:
Bad Therapy: Why Aren't the Kids Growing Up? by Abigail Shrier This is a must-read if you haven't yet. It led me to Jonathan Haidt, Lenore Skenazy, and the Let Grow movement.
Fiction:
Everyone Here is Lying by Shari Lapena
She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica
No surprises here. All by mystery/thriller authors I enjoy enough to seek out their backlogs and preorder their new books.
Award for Most Interesting Book You Didn't Know You Needed to Read:
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant
My Least Favorite:
It's a tie. Usually I just put down or return or get rid of books I don't like. I will quit at 3 pages or I will quit at 300 pages. It doesn't bother me. However, I definitely hate-read Sandwich and then I had to finish The One and Only Ivan for school. Both were bad for entirely different reasons but I would implore you to ignore them both.
Book where I don't understand the hype:
ACOTAR I tried. Sometimes I want nothing more than to hop on the pop culture band wagon but I couldn't get past the first book.
What was your reading like in 2024? Favorite book? Or, better yet, what book did you dislike the most?
