Part of a Book Challenge

Erin is hosting a book challenge this summer.  I really want to jump on board but Erin is very adamant about it being stress-free, even though it's considered a challenge. So I'm adapting and not really entering the challenge, but I'm participating in my own way.

*The challenge runs from July 1st to October 31st. I have the time to read this summer but if I don't get on it this month, it won't happen in July. In order to form this habit for my summer and utilize my summer wisely, I'm beginning the challenge now, instead of July 1st (note: this is why I'm not officially entering and just writing a blog post about it).

*While I could read 10 books in the given timeframe, I can't guarantee that these are the 10 books I'll read/feel like reading/want to read/etc. This is where I've hit a wall with past challenges.

*As I perused websites and Goodreads and my library's Kindle website and Audible to check out my options, I started reserving books. Some of them are already available to me. I don't want to wait to read them if I have the time to read them now. In this case, it would be more work to wait to read them. I have no qualms about finishing; I'll finish this challenge before school starts, but I think I need to utilize my month of June.

*This is the list I came up with. I totally wrote it on the back of my grocery list, so I'm going to post it here before it accidentally gets thrown away.

My freebie is After Math, because my "R" book, Redesigned, is the sequel to After Math.
A lot of what I read is Historical Fiction, so I haven't plugged anything into that category yet. Also, a book written more than 100 years ago...I've had Mansfield Park in my Goodreads for over a year, but I'm scared I won't be able to finish it because I'm not a reader of the classics. I'm debating this.
And the music-related book: I don't do music-related books. I looked at the lists that were posted with suggestions and I saw two that I had read in the past: The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Eleanor and Park.
So if I, by chance, come across a book that is music-related and I'm reading it anyway, I'll add it to my list.

Anyway, I hope this isn't cheating. I'm not actually entering, just using the framework to tackle some of those books that are already on my TBR list.

  1. I love Flowers in the Attic. Also, Lilac Girls is also on my to read list! Good luck with summer reading. I'm trying to amp up my reading too. There are so many books out there. Never enough time.

  2. mansfield park is my choice for the 100 years category and i'm not looking forward to it.. i know, crazy right? it's the only one of hers i haven't read and i don't think i will like it. we'll see. i like your way of participating, why not, gotta do what works for you. i have plenty of other books to read right now, and i tried to choose books for the challenge that i don't already own, so i wouldn't be tempted to start them before july 1. for me, challenges go unfinished because i don't like to feel 'forced' into reading something, so i will either force it and hate it, or keep putting it off and then the challenge is over and i didn't finish it haha.

  3. I loved this so much that I just shared it on twitter too. I'm all for making this work for you. If you somewhat participate, I'm A-Okay with that! I loved the Flowers in the Attic books when I was younger. I might re-visit those one day.

    1. Do you mind if I share your choices in the fb group even though you aren't fully participating?
