What to wear…

Looking for something to wear in the morning is a struggle. I have no idea why.  This didn't used to happen to me.  Obviously this isn't a real problem in the grand scheme of things, but it's a drag on day to day life.

You see, way back when, I winterized my wardrobe and I haven't been able to break away from that.  I automatically gravitate to long sleeves, leggings, and scarves if given the choice.  Yesterday, it was 75 degrees when I left school and I had this on.  I wore it last year too, so it's not exactly a new idea.

Dress:  Off-brand from the PX // Sweater: Loft // (the best) Leggings (ever): Lauren Conrad from Kohl's

However, when I left for school in the morning, it was breezy and 40 degrees.  I wore a coat.  I was melting as I took this picture though, and I'm looking up like that so as not to be blinded by the sun.  Today it's supposed to be 79 degrees! I don't get it.  I'm used to mentally preparing for winter by August and I hate to complain about warm weather, but I'm running out of clothing ideas.

While I don't think I've been buying a lot of clothes lately, I haven't NOT been buying clothes either. I spend a lot of time browsing the Gap's website and just ordered some new shirts, but I think I need to find about 5 must-have pieces that I can wear often and can transition through this weird weather.  Any ideas?  What have you bought for fall?  I don't think I'll ever get used to 70 degree weather in October.  I don't even remember this happening in Pennsylvania.

  1. Getting dressed for me is a daily struggle. 1) I only operate on comfort. I do not put something on if it's not comfortable. 2) 99% of my wardrobe is hand me downs 3) I couldn't tell you the last time I bough an article of clothing (this is a real issue). Even if I had the money to spend on clothes (which let's face it, I use my spending money for beauty products) I wouldn't even know what to buy. I had dinner last night with a few Raleigh Bloggers who are all fashion bloggers. I am so NOT a fashion blogger. They looked great. I looked homeless.

  2. getting dressed every day sucks. i am from sydney, living in KY, so i am cold if it is under 80 degrees. i basically dress for 'winter' all year round, long sleeves etc. except when its 90-100 of course. and my office is always so air conditioned, it may as well be winter inside! i have been pinteresting 'capsule wardrobes' just to get an idea of some key pieces i can use over and over.

  4. I'm serious... you NEED ThredUp in your life. Go check it out and get yourself a few pieces for DIRT CHEAP. You can even search for Gap only stuff if you want, but I'd say just narrow by your size and peruse for a bit.

Must-have pieces that are getting me through (in Texas, it's still in the 80s!): Hue ponte knit leggings, a pair of tan open-toe booties, a chambray shirt (you can roll up the sleeves!), and my mustard open cardigan from Target!

  5. We're warm here this year too. Lots of days in the 70s with higher humidity.

Every fall I find that I am deficient in 3/4 sleeve tops. I think I'm finally in a good spot!

I love the Old Navy Pixies and plan to wear them in the winter also, just with ankle boots!

  6. It is definitely October here, but I'm still in denial. I really need to get some more sweaters. Lightweight cardigans with sleeveless blouses just don't cut it when it's raining sideways and 40 degrees.

I would say just layer, layer, layer...not that I'm the best at that either but that's what "they" say you're supposed to do.

  7. Michigan has a lot of days like that--cold and then hot. I really like jackets, I had fake leather jacket and a denim jacket that I would just wear as part of my outfit until it got too hot and then the jacket would come off. It was 91 degrees here yesterday--though they keep telling us it will get cold in the winter, I'm liking a long summer!

  8. Getting dressed in the morning is my demise. If I don't have it picked out the night before, I find myself staring at my closet. And I very rarely have in mind what I'm wearing the next day.

It's getting much cooler here in PA. My problem is that as I start to dress for cooler weather, I'm too hot in my classroom.....

  9. After Monterey's constant temps, when we moved back here last year I had a seriously tough time adjusting to 40 in the morning, 80 in the afternoon... jackets for the kids and cardigans for me...we are still figuring it out!
