Customer service in the Springs

We didn't do anything special on the 4th of July.  I still can't decide if it's because we're not crazy into holidays when it's just the two of us or if we're just kinda lame because we don't really know anyone here yet.

Scott celebrated by installing more of the hardwood floor and I made cupcakes, salsa, margaritas, steak, and salad.  I also spent some time reorganizing the cupboards and folding/sorting all the linens that were still smushed into boxes.  We watched Free Birds on Netflix and I thought about how nice it would be if we really did celebrate Thanksgiving with pizza.  Then we went to sleep early.

Friday, we got up early with a game plan.  First, we went to breakfast at King's Chef Diner.  It's called the "tastiest breakfast in Colorado" by Food Network, so it was worth checking out.  The service was impeccable, we got right in at 9:00am, and we even remembered to stop at the ATM since it's cash only.

I had the breakfast burrito, gravy and green chili on the side.  The chili was spicy, the gravy was okay.  The burrito was, I'm sure as far as burritos go, pretty good.  I'm not usually a breakfast burrito person, but I couldn't not try it.  Scott had the Merl Scramble.  Usually I don't drink regular coffee at restaurants (I'm snobby like that) but they talked up the organic coffee in such a way that I had to try it.  Overall, it wasn't the best breakfast we'd ever had (that honor goes to Snow City Cafe in Anchorage), but it WAS very good and the service made it even better.

That is the HALF burrito.  It was only $6.50!

After breakfast we went to Old Colorado City to the farmer's market…

(Honestly, I'm already bored with this recap…this is why I don't recap often.)

The farmer's market was amazing and I think it might become a regular Saturday thing.

I had no idea basil was available in such vast quantities.  Only $3!

We also found a cute coffee and wine bar and I had the best iced coffee, potentially, ever.

Against my wishes, she put on whipped cream.  I scooped most of it off when she wasn't looking.

Then, as per the game plan, we went to see an 11:15am showing of 22 Jump Street.  It certainly wasn't as good as 21 Jump Street, but still funny.

Then, we stopped at Lowe's because we always seem to need a few things from Lowe's.  After an awful customer service experience, I complained via the wide world of Twitter and got a response pretty quickly.  I was directed toward a website where I could relay our experience to the customer service department.

Long story short:  We keep ordering things and they keep messing it up.  They originally lost part of our bamboo flooring a month ago.  On Saturday, they couldn't find our oven.  There's more to the story, but I don't feel like ranting this morning.  We'll see if they show up with the oven today.

Scott worked at Lowe's when he was in college.  We're loyal to the place.  My brother worked for Lowe's too. This is the second house Scott has worked on renovating in the last 6 years and all of the building materials have always come from Lowe's.  I don't have a personal vendetta.  We have just lost our patience with this particular store.

I really think that I should start my own review site or something because, as much as I wanted to talk about how the Lowe's in Fountain, Colorado is stocked with simpleton, fake-sympathizing, usually-tend-to-ignore-customers-altogether sales associates, sometimes I feel like things can get awfully negative around here.  But we had EXCELLENT experiences at King's Chef Diner, the Old Colorado City Farmer's Market, Republic of Paws, and The Sweet Elephant. The Tinseltown movie theater was also worth our while.  Clean, friendly, and plush leather seats arranged stadium style.  As I said to Scott, "We wasted a year in Missouri.  I haven't been in a nice movie theater since Alaska."

So yes.  Good customer service is all around us!  I just wanted to let you know that we're not always a magnet for bad business.

  1. I'd totally be hacked off at that Lowe's and letting everyone know it.

Great Farmer's Market haul and that coffee makes me want to run out and grab one.

  2. When my parents were remodeling the house that Angel and I now live in, it was a running joke that Dad spend the majority of every project running to the local home improvement store for yet something else--you get to know those places very well, sorry your Lowe's isn't treating you well!
It is REALLY nice when you discover a place with truly great customer service, sometimes it's really surprising!

  3. It's frustrating when you get continuous bad service at a place you want to be loyal to.

  4. We're pretty lazy with holidays, too. I often wonder if I'm just a grouch or just lazy. It seems like a lot of effort for just the two of us when we'd rather order pizza and watch Netflix anyway. I'm glad you had some good customer service--although your bad service stories are always the best!

  6. I don't understand why the makers of comedy movies insist on making sequels to their comedies. The second (or third) ones are almost never as good as the original. (Ahem...The Hangover....). We've decided we're going to the one movie theater in State College from now on because they have stadium seating and it's cheaper than Altoona!

I'm glad you've had some good customer service at places, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for that oven to show up! :)

  7. Lowe's has been having issue lately. I have a friend who moved into a new house and bought a new fridge from them. I guess they lost the order, found it, it was broken and finally had to give them the one off the floor...3 weeks later! Makes me happy I'm not dealing with any of that at the moment!
