New deck and new neighbors

Shorts/shirt:  Old Navy // Sandals/belt: Target

This isn't the best outfit picture, but I wanted to show the fact that I have a deck in Missouri that's just like the one I had in Alaska.  It's a little higher off the ground, but this one at least has steps down to the ground.  Our other deck didn't have steps.  It was pretty inconvenient.

(I never showed you this outfit from March.  It was so cold that I just kept layering til it felt right.  Kind of a mess, but it was comfortable!)
Boots: Steve Madden // Scarf: Old Navy // Sweater: Target // Dress: Kohl
Anyway, behind the new house, there's a unkempt gully (a holla, if you will) and across that gully is a neighbor who likes to yell at his dog.  He was having a fit on this particular day, because the dog, that he kept chained to a doghouse, was digging holes.  He went on and on (to the dog who doesn't understand him) for a good 15 minutes.

He was also probably wondering why I was taking pictures of myself on our deck.  This would also be a good opportunity to tell you that not one of our neighbors has introduced themselves.  Who should say "hi" first, the person who just moved in, or the person who already lives on the street?  I never did talk to our neighbors at our last house in Alaska (much).  At our first house in Alaska, the neighbors were great......a few came over the day we moved in to introduce themselves. I would like to think of this as an opportunity to start over...what should I do?

  1. I love the outfits! I think the old neighbors should say hi first.

  2. Yaaayy I love how much more green it is in Missouri! I would also love a deck like that :) Good luck getting to know your neighbors. We don't know ours here too well, probably because they're all reeeeeally old. I wish we did.

  3. The only time our neighbors talk to us is when they want to complain. When at my parents I'll say hi to them if they are out, they are much nicer there.

  4. I love that your new deck looks so much like the old one. I think the neighbors should say hi first.

  5. That is hilarious...the deck + background is almost identical. The giveaway is the green. Now I want to move to Missouri. Or anywhere but here, really.

As far as neighbors go...nobody really made it a point to come introduce themselves. We just randomly met all of them while taking out the trash or something. Which is fine, I'm not really a be-best-friends-with-your-neighbors type of person, anyway. We're friendly, and we take our elderly neighbors' trash down to the street as much as we can and bake everyone cookies at Christmastime, but that's about it.

  6. I was just thinking of the neighbor situation today, so we must both be watching ESPN or however the saying goes. Anywho, I believe that the current neighbors should come welcome the new neighbors and introduce themselves, maybe mention that the mailman is a crotchety old fart, don't bother saying hi to him.
BUT, I think that if that doesn't happen, it's best to go introduce yourself. Maybe your neighborly attitude will help make them more neighborly in return and then you and all of your neighbors will be be having a block party and sipping on strawberry daquiris before you know it.

  7. People in southern Missouri are usually pretty nice. I am surprised nobody has introduced themselves yet. I think the old neighbors should be the ones to make the first move.

  8. I'm glad you still have a deck for your photo shoots! We live in an apartment complex, but when we moved in our upstairs neighbor baked us cookies which was nice. Other than that I just say hi to everyone when I see them, which is pretty easy since most of the people have dogs. I hope your neighbors introduce themselves, maybe they just want to give you a little time to settle. If not I say you bake something awesome and show them how nice you are.

  9. I think the current neighbors should introduce themselves, but that just doesn't always happen. I'm still meeting new neighbors around here. The lady right beside me- I was convinced she was a beast bc she wouldn't wave/talk/nothin' but her husband was really friendly. The other day on my run she fell in beside me and started chatting me up. ha! We are friends now.
I can't believe how much your deck looks similar. I thought for a second that your outfit pic was from a warm Alaska summer day.

  10. When we moved into our house, we were going on vacation like a month later, so my husband went over and asked our neighbors to watch our house for us. That's how we met people. All we really do is a friendly wave. (Half of our neighbors speak Spanish, so only Craig can talk to them anyway)

  11. They haven't said him?

I always introduce myself to my neighbors.

  12. I thought it was you Alaska deck! And make cookies. Most neighbors love cookies. Unless you're my neighbors. They're just annoying and now that we have a brand spanking new fence I plan to completely ignore them. :)

  13. You look good in shorts and a t-shirt! :)

I think the neighbors should be the first to say "hi", but I've never had that happen to me. I usually let it happen naturally if we pass by each other or something like that. I wouldn't stress out too much :)

  14. Look at you in shorts and sandals! Your deck looks crazy similar.

I think the neighbors should definitely introduce themselves first.

  15. I like that you have a deck and that your outfit pics can still kind of be the same! I don't know why but that makes me happy!

  16. Well, that deck really does make things look familiar! As for neighbors...we have none where we live now...or at least they are a long way down the road, and I wouldn't recognize them if I saw them...so I guess how you respond probably depends on if you want to know your neighbors or on how close they live to you. I remember one time when I was a kid, my family moved to a new place, and all the neighbors were bringing us food in order to get to meet us. But they were all elderly couples, so they probably came from a different generation of neighborliness.

  17. So happy to see you in shorts and a tee! :) But I love both outfits.

We just ended up meeting out neighbors just from being outside. In fact, we didn't even learn most of their names until about 3 years ago, even though they knew ours. lol

  18. We had a deck when we lived in Minnesota, and I would love one now, but we don't have one!
If I lived in Alaska, I would wear like 4 down comforters to school every day, not leggings and a sweater!
I've always felt that the people already living there should make the first move, so if they aren't, go for it! That wasn't really a big deal for us since we had a block party the 2nd day after we moved in!
I love your shirt too! :)

  19. Awww your legs are sooo cute! LOL!! I bet you are happy and excited and ready for tank top and jean shorts season! I am happy for ya!

  20. I think THEY should introduce themselves to you. However, this is 2013 so they're probably just hoping you're not loud and annoying. Have a great weekend!

  21. We had a similar deck in our previous house that I used for shots, too. But at our new house, we don't have a deck and our neighbors are very close to ours. I currently do my outfit photos inside my house. I'm a little conscientious about having pictures taken of me outside the house. I may have to get brave and just do it or find a different location. Love the outfits you have here...boots and sweaters are great, but I'm so happy that I'm now back into wearing summery outfits!
