Almost 4 years ago, on our first trip there, I noticed it was like a maze. Hallways, doorways, steps, elevators, no real rhyme/reason/design to its particular architecture. At nighttime, if you're there for a meeting or something, the lights often dim in the hallways because they're controlled by motion sensors. Adds to the ambiance, I suppose.
If you walk around one corner (don't ask me where, I don't understand the layout of the place), you'll come face to face with this.
And you'll jump. Like this.
Or maybe it's just me. Every. single. time. They scare the be-jeezus out of me.
I just feel that there's nothing like a creepy menagerie of dead, stuffed moose.
I especially like the little placards that tell you how they died. It's awesome that they're on display for all to see. (The little ones? Twins. Killed by wolves.)
I've spent a lot of energy avoiding this particular hallway in Building 600. Maybe this has to do with my odd fear of large inanimate objects. But I will go half a mile out of my way to avoid coming around this corner.
I will not miss these moose.
The end.
So strange....especially the placards. I'm sure your new place will be scant on moose sightings. Does this sadden you in the least?
ReplyDeleteI used to want to visit Alaska before I started reading your blog...Now I just think there are a bunch of strange people and things up there that I can live without seeing!
ReplyDeleteOh my god, they tell you how they died?!? I think that might be the worst part for me. So awful. And I have to disagree with Amanda above me, I have NEVER wanted to visit Alaska. There are soooo many people who say that they want to go on an Alaskan cruise... sitting on a boat? in the (probably) cold? looking at ice? for like a week? No thank you! Maybe for a day, but then I'm done. I would MUCH rather go to the Caribbean (but I promise, when I do, it won't be on Carnival!). Happy Monday (and I hope I didn't offend you... even after how much you post about hating Alaska, I still feel the need to write that!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I would jump too and probably have some expletives flying.
ReplyDeleteI'd jump too that's scary
ReplyDeletethis made me laugh. i'm sure there are lots of things you aren't going to miss :)
ReplyDeletefirst of all, that is very funny. 2nd of all, I can't stop watching the dog jump away from the jack in the box! lol!
ReplyDeleteI thought this was all very strange until you said you were in Alaska. I guess I would expect something similar coming from Minnesota too but that's about it. With the "ambient light" flickering in the hallways I bet this gets even creepier! I think someone needs to dress them up. I never have a problem with taxidermy when they have nice hats or jewelry, lol. I can't get over the fact that this is in a military building though and not a natural history museum. I'm just going to assume from now on that random buildings in Alaska have stuffed moose. It's so odd!
ReplyDeleteMajestic moose of the north!
ReplyDeleteI'm the weird one who actually likes stuffed animals with plaques telling how they died...haha. Natural history museums and such are my FAVORITE THING EVER. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat building, though...seems creepy. Dimmed, maze-like hallways? The heck?
So weird. lol
ReplyDeleteThe stuffed moose doesn't bother me, but telling you how they died seems odd to me.
ReplyDeleteThis cracked me up. How they died? Really???
ReplyDeleteUhh, this is really creepy. With the first picture, I thought it was a painting and then I kept scrolling! I've never seen a moose dead or a live and now I don't think I want to ever.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh! I just laughed at that big dumb moose's nose. I wonder what they would have stuffed in Missouri, or is this strictly and Alaskan thing?
ReplyDeleteThat would creep me out, too. I also wouldn't care to know how they died. Especially if some big macho man shot it down.
ReplyDeleteI have a few relatives that have stuffed birds in their house. It also creeped me out because the eyes seemed to pierce into your brain. Although, as a kid it was kind of cool to see what a real-life barn owl looked like.
Hahaha! The moose. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteAnd I definitely watched that pug jumping about 7 times. Hilarity.
My biggest reaction to this post: do not use this building as a stronghold in a zombie apocalypse situation.
ReplyDeleteHere we have stuffed gators. LOL
