Sunday Social 7/29 and Funny Stuffs

This week's Sunday Social questions are about work.  I'll be going back to work very soon.  Summer, it's been nice.

I was sharing KStew stuff all over the Twitter and the Facebook this week (She makes it so much fun!).  Scroll to the very bottom if that's what you're after.

What is your dream job?
An attainable dream job?
I'd love to become a college professor.  After I get my masters' in Children's Literature.

And I would be a fitness instructor on the side.

If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
My don't-need-the-money dream job would be that of historian.  I would like to travel the world and explore historical places.  I'd love it, actually, if someone would pay me to do so.

Or the occupation of "stay-at-home-and-Pin-things".

And I would be a fitness instructor on the side.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A pediatrician.  And then I learned that it took about 12 years of college to become one.
I switched to "teacher" in 4th grade because I really loved my 4th grade teacher.  I don't think it's a coincidence that I teach 4th grade now.
There was a brief period where I wanted to be a forensic scientist (7th grade) and then I realized my inability to do even basic math would work against me.

What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
I've only been teaching full-time for 2 years, but if I were talking to a college freshman, I'd ask them if they really wanted to be a teacher or if they just thought it'd be "fun".
I would advise a brand-new teacher not to be afraid of being perceived as "mean".  Kids crave limits and routine.  The stricter and more consistent you are, the more they respect you, and they'll really love you for it.  (I'll be forever thankful for my student-teaching mentors and my first principal for teaching me this.)

What are your biggest pet peeves in life, blogging, or at work?
Life:  People who can't spell (it's not THAT hard).
Also, people who don't try.  I see my husband putting his life on the line for people who won't even try at life, so my sympathy/empathy is non-existent.  And I don't apologize for that.
OH, and people who complain that they miss their significant other (when it's uncalled for).

Blogging:  People who constantly apologize for being a "bad blogger".  No one is forcing you to blog.  Either do or do not.

Work: When children bring pencil sharpeners to school and get the shavings everywhere (more about this on Tuesday).  I mean, there's more that bothers me (Obviously there's more.  This is me we're talking about.), but I don't blog anonymously.

Onto funny stuffs...

If you're not reading Text From Dog, you need to go do that now.  I read the whole site in less than 30 minutes and cried some tears of laughter.  Have at it.

Dude.  I don't even have to try and make fun of KStew this week.  She makes it too easy.  And by "easy", I mean it's a good adjective to describe her.
My only comment is that she was on the set of Snow White and the Huntsman and she chose to cheat with the old, married director (named Rupert...blech).
Anyone in their right mind would've cheated with the Huntsman.

  1. Loving your answers! In terms of fitness blogging, would you do glasses? Personal training? I'd love to teach zumba, so your answer made me happy!

I also hear you on your pet peeves - I was just talking to a blogger today about not apologizing when a break is taken - we're all human and might need a day or two to recoup!

Check out my Sunday Social here!

  3. There was a brief period of time when I wanted to be a teacher and then realized I couldn't tolerate a room full of misbehaving kids. I know not all are, but there usually is that one kid lol. I said I'd stay home and pin all day too, but I like you "job title" more. That photo is hilarious and I'm still laughing over your KStew comments. True!

  5. I totally wanted to be a pediatrician too when I was younger! Except my middle school guidance counselor told me I was too stupid to be one. Nice!

  6. I am dying over the KStew comment! That is good stuff!

I commend every person who is entering the teaching field these days. It's a very difficult place to be, and I don't think it's something that I could do, personally. I think it's fantastic that you do it for the right reasons! Keep it going!

    Have a great week!

  7. Do you plan on working to get your masters anytime soon? You are slowly becoming the fitness queen!

Your blogs make me want to blog again. I don't understand how people can be bad bloggers. It's freaking blogging! I love staying at home pinning things! As you've probably noticed, I've been pinning a lot lately!

When people miss their significant other like crazy during an 8hr work shift, it annoys me. How horrible is that? I just get on Facebook and every two hours, they're talking about how much they miss their "hubby." It's nice to miss your significant other, but it's nice to have your own time also. I completely understand where you're coming from. Rob used to be in the Army and several of my siblings are.

I read Text From Dog on Pinterest the other day and was cracking up!

  9. I hope you can be a college professor some day! I used to want to teach, but I'm not sure I'm cut out for it. I'm aiming for librarian right now...though teaching children's lit at a college level would be great!!

p.s. sent you an email. :)

  10. That picture cracks me up. I love those "you're doing it wrong" photos. Seriously love when I see you've written a new post in my Reader. A lot of the people I keep up with get a "mark all as read" when I'm way behind, but I like to stop and read yours always. :)

  12. I love that you would be a historian. I studied history in college with the intent of becoming a college professor someday. Now I would in corporate retail. (Go figure) Maybe one day I'll go back to writing papers for a living.
