Sending baked good overseas??
Why haven't I done a post about this yet? I bake cookies all the time!
I also eat them all or pawn them off on my co-workers. The one place they do not go is to my deployed husband.
He says I'm forever "trying to fatten him up".
What?? Me???
Nooooo....
Just because I sent him the Birthday Oreos that he practically begged for...I'm not trying to fatten him up.
I'd like to think that I cook some pretty healthy fare. Unfortunately, I also like to eat ice cream and stuff.
Strangely enough, it's probably not a coincidence that Scott is able to work out everyday, lose weight, and gain muscle while deployed.
Funny how things work out.
So, while I don't send baked goods overseas, I'm sure lotsa you military wives do! Here are my suggestions:
-Cookies that have a flour/oatmeal base. Anything with the temperament of fudge or candy (no bakes/fudge/bark) might melt and get all funky.
-Banana bread ships really well
-Oatmeal cookies, Hershey's Kiss Cookies, Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Cookies (if you use a frosting without cream-cheese in it), PB Cookies, and Sugar Cookies/Snickerdoodles all ship well.
-When packaging cookies, I generally put them into mini aluminum loaf pans (the disposable kind-"green" I am not). I wrap them in plastic wrap, then in foil, then put them into Ziploc bags (again, "green" I am not). These loaf pans fit perfectly into medium-sized flat-rate Priority boxes.
-I'd consider cupcakes a no-go. Or cake in general actually. Too messy.
-My brother got oatmeal cookies and white chocolate rice crispy treats quite often from my parents when he was overseas.
-Depending on the season, you could try cakeballs. Their seasons are weird 13 1/2 time zones away. I'm never sure if the box will be sitting in 85* and humid weather or end up on an air-conditioned plane.
-I'm sure brownies would do just fine.

Do any of you have shipping/packing tips for baked goods being sent overseas?? Any suggestions on baked goods that travel well??
