It's OK 3/8 and 11 Questions

Two.    more.     days.    Then?  Spring Break!

First, I'm linking up to...

Its Ok Thursdays

It's OK...

......that it's another moose.
Thanks 300mm zoom!
...to wish that I could really shop on Pinterest.  I wouldn't mind putting in a credit card number, waiting for packages in the mail, and having everything miraculously fit.  I'm too lazy to shop around.

...that in my first venture to the mall since NOVEMBER, I got me some tangerine pants.  I think I'll wear them to school.

....that the Iditarod started on Saturday and I was not standing there on the streets of downtown Anchorage to watch.  I went in 2010.  Once is enough for me!

Only in Alaska would a person be considered a party-pooper for not wanting to partake in an outdoor winter carnival.  I am that person.  Sorry all.

Anything okay with you this week?

Next, I was tagged by Kate @Daffodils with 11 questions to answer.  I've seen these posts just about everywhere.  I really like Kate's questions though, so here goes:

1.   Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in May of 2010 to document our time in Alaska.  A lot of my Alaska friends had blogs and I was really tired of sending out constant update emails to family and friends. This way, my family could just read the blog.  However, I really started getting into cooking and baking in the fall of 2010.  The reason for new recipes all the time is here.  Since my husband's deployment, I'm more into the "thoughts" portion of my blog because I feel like I have a lot to share and no one to talk to!  The blogging community makes a wonderful sounding board.

2.  Where did you go to college and why did you choose it?
I went to The Penn State University, beginning in the fall of 2004 and graduating in May 2008.  I chose it because it's close to home and, come on now, it's PENN STATE.

3.  Do you love your job?  If not, what would you rather be doing?
Such a Catch-22 question.  All I ever wanted to do was teach.  Then I became an Army wife and I still wanted to teach, because my Penn State degree was not (I repeat, was not) going to go to waste.  I got a job and I do enjoy it.  Will I do it forever?  Probably not.  I'd like to try "stay-at-home mom/army wife".  I'd like to, eventually, teach education students at the college level (Children's Literature or History would be my preferred subject). Part-time of course.  I don't think I was designed for full-time work.

4.  Who or what is your biggest motivator everyday?
Knowing that my husband works so much harder than me keeps me going.   If he can do THAT, I can do THIS.  I can't even pretend that I work as much, or put as much effort into my work, as he does.  My family in PA also keeps me chugging along because, oddly enough, they think I can do this Alaska thing.  So I've taken the challenge to prove that I can.  Also, the blogging-world motivates me to not lay on the couch and cry every night (i.e. deployment #1).  Instead, I write.  Oh, and God has given me this to handle and I don't want to let Him down.

5.  If you could have one song playing in your head at all times, what would it be?
It would be my Jake Owen Pandora station.

6.  What does your dream home look like?
It would definitely be designed and built by us and must have a huge kitchen.  Scott would also insist on a seven car garage, I'm sure.  However, I have a lot of trouble picturing it because I don't know where it will be.

7.  If you had a large sum of money to spend on yourself, what would you buy?
If this was completely disposable income, I'd take a trip.  Scott wants to go to the Mediterranean.  I want to go to back to the Caribbean.  Hopefully, we'd have enough money to do both.

8.  What is the biggest risk you have ever taken?
I'd never defined myself as a "risk taker".  However, Scott and I got engaged after dating for 5 months.  We got married 3 1/2 months later.  We packed up all of our belongings and drove to Alaska.  While I had plenty of faith in him, I never really believed I could do all this army stuff until I had to.  Definitely a risk.

9.  What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Getting my thoughts out of my head and into a journal I can look back on is a plus.  Actually, I really enjoy connecting with other bloggers and reading their stories.  "About Me" pages are my favorite to read through.  Some of them are downright inspirational!

10.  What do you collect?
Country-ish decor.  There aren't a whole lot of stores that sell decor I like in AK, so I stock up on every trip home and ship boxes back.

11.  Do you have a tattoo?
Nope.  My husband is currently considering two, but a tattoo is something I've never desired to have and probably will never get.  Kind of like the extra piercings..I only have my ears pierced once and that'll probably never change.

I'm not tagging anyone in particular, but feel free to take these 11 questions and create a post!  If you want to almost be late for work or spend some time thinking about your life with deep insight*, post away!  Just link back to my questions please.  It took me a while to think these babies up :)
1.  Who is your least favorite musical artist?  Why?
2.  What 5 things can always be found in your fridge and/or pantry?
3.  Do you have a motto, mantra, or quote that helps you get through rough days?  What is it?
4.  Is there a room of your house that you're just really bad at decorating?  Which one and why?
5.  Do you workout regularly?  If so, what's your go-to cardio workout?
6.  What's the worst movie you've ever seen?
7.  What t.v. show can you watch over and over again without getting sick of it?
8.  What's your coffee/tea beverage of choice?  Is there a particular place you order it from? (Starbucks, Dunkin', etc.)?
9.  Growing up, did you have a role model?  Who was it and why?
10.  Was there ever a book that you just gave up on because it was boring to you?  Which one??
11.  Favorite ice cream?? Go!

*Both of these happened to me!

  2. Worst movie I've ever seen: 50/50. Okay, so it was actually quite good, but someone super close to me passed away due to a brain aneurysm, and then my best friend has colon cancer, so it hit far too close to home. I was bawling so hard in the movie theater that I made Nick cover my mouth so I wasn't so hysterical. Not even kidding, it was sad.

  4. We might be long lost soul mates. We had a short dating/engagement period too, I used to teach but traded it in for armywife/SAHM and Kev and I have a separate savings account titled 'vacation fund' which we contribute to every month so that whenever we feel like going on a trip, we can afford it. I love to travel! Thanks for playing along. (And I am putting in a formal request for your love story if you havent shared it already!)

  6. I love this idea. I also don't think I was cut out for full-time work and teaching was great...for awhile. Your husband (and what you go through) is inspirational to me. :)

  7. I love the new layout, so cute! I really went back to look for the second asterisk when you said these two things happened to you. You are a strong woman and I applaud you for being an Army wive. I've seen how hard it is and I'm not so sure I could it. I love your recipes, but haven't had time to really browse anything lately. I've barely been on Pinterest lately! I would love to do your questions, but finishing this wedding stuff calls! Enjoy spring break!
