Peanut Butter S'mores

S'mores are a conundrum to me.

When I think about eating one, my response is usually, "No, that's okay."

The idea of the flavor combination of graham crackers, Hershey bars, and marshmallows just does not appeal to me.  I don't know why the idea doesn't appeal to me.  I average about one s'more a year.

I know.  It frustrates me too.

But then, I'll eat a s'more.  And then I'll eat another one.  And another one.  Because they are so good.  Why don't I seem to remember that melt-y goodness the other 364 days of the year???

Funny story here, but perfect example of this conundrum.

A student made me a s'more at school (in the classroom microwave) as part of a demonstrative speech.  Just one for me.  Not one for everyone in the class.  She set it on my desk.  The children looked at it longingly.  I had no intention of eating it right then, because simply looking at a s'more does not make me want one.

Then, I gave it a small taste because she was expectantly waiting for me to try it.

It was so good that I continued to eat the entire thing while 24 students stared up at me drooling.

I'm not very nice.

I'm sorry!!!  It was just so good!

Now, before you jump all over me for "child-s'more-cruelty", the child who made the s'more for me also made one for herself.

So I think the coup class was more against her than against me.

I actually had the idea to make s'mores for my class as a science experiment, but then I figured the whole open-flame-thing just wouldn't fly.

This, my friends, is a kicked-up version of a s'more.  Using Reeses' Peanut Butter Cups, I'm still paying homage to good ol' PA.

Peanut Butter S'mores

-Graham crackers, broken in half
-Regular Reeses' cups or Mini-Reeses' cups cut in half
-Marshmallows

-wooden skewers, soaked in water to prevent burning

-an open flame (I used the gas stove, because we don't have a fire pit, nor was I going to build a fire in the Alaskan rainy season.)

please don't judge my hideous stove.  it's a rental, what can i say...

Assemble the Reeses' cups and graham crackers.  Put marshmallows on skewers.  Toast marshmallows over flame. (You could really just use the microwave here).

Schmush the marshmallow into the Reeses' cup and top with a graham cracker.

Eat!

I've had more of these than I can count this week.

  1. I love s'mores. So much so that I bought a mini Christmas tree with s'mores ornaments to send to my husband when he was deployed. I personally, like to make my s'mores with snickers bars.
