Friday Things, 1/10

this arrived a few days early whereas every amazon package is a week late due to weather.
how does that work?

1. Sometimes, usually once a year, I re-read these Year of Slow-Cooking blog posts. I find it super cathartic. I highly recommend doing something like that if you need to touch grass on how out of touch the online world has become.

2. The local book club (that I am invited to but I don't go because I can't be bothered to read rom-coms and/or don't have childcare on random Tuesday evenings) posted their next book for January: Jar of Hearts. I don't think they are the type for this book. I don't think they are fully prepared how screwed up that book is; I didn't sleep for a week. But, I don't know how to post this in the FB group of a book club I don't actually participate in. You know, tactfully.

3. Today is my birthday and I thought about taking the day off but we're on snow day #5 this week. No complaints!

4. I ordered a planner and here's a code if you want $10 off! If you're running two weeks behind like me, because you couldn't decide on a planner...I cannot say no to plaid anything so I went back to Erin Condren. They are the only ones who make a plaid planner. And they don't even offer it anymore because the "winter" season is over. I snatched it up right after Christmas.

5. I will say we are truly (I am truly*) enjoying Maverick these days. I was so bogged down with worry over Jett for so long that I didn't appreciate the puppy days the way I maybe should've. We miss Jett so much but it's such a relief to know he's not suffering anymore. I wish we could've done more for him (like maybe gotten 2nd and 3rd opinions last spring), but he had a really good dog life and almost 11 years wasn't a short amount of time.

*verdict is still out on Scott's opinion of Maverick after he ate a bunch of cash, destroyed his wallet, and chewed up his credit cards last week. Also he kept running away and peeing all over the place when we were in Pennsylvania.

6. I am all for celebrating your birthday in whatever way you want to..I usually bake myself a cake or two, order some presents, etc. Do and eat whatever I want for like 48 hours. I do, however, judge you to the utmost if you make your coworkers celebrate you. I've seen a lot of that in the last few years and I think it's really childish to make people celebrate your birthday. This is the first year I haven't deactivated Facebook on my birthday in awhile....I don't like random people saying Happy Birthday? It's awkward.
