I wear make-up 5-7 days a week during the school year and 1-2 days a week during the summer. It just depends on what's going on. Every time I wear make-up, I put on the same array of products. This is it (and a lot of this is satire...I get that I'm not good at make-up).
Eyeliner. Nothing that would ever need sharpening. That's too much work. These kinds go on nice and smooth. I buy whatever is under $7.
Eyeshadow. I have a brush that I use instead of a sponge. If you buy a little palette, you can blend in the colors (hashtag lifehack). I buy whatever is under $7.
Mascara. I buy whatever I *think* I bought last time or whatever is under $7.
Bare Minerals powder. This is my "splurge" at $25ish. I only need like one container a year because a little goes a long way.
I use an e.l.f. brush for the powder.
I usually buy make-up at Target because they have the e.l.f. brushes there. I buy Bare Minerals at the PX on base because it's a little cheaper than Ulta or online.
I always have a tube of Eucerin dry skin treatment with me. It makes the best lip balm. I have a tinted lip balm too, but I only use it when I'm on my way to work. I usually have some type of lipstick with me too, but rarely wear it.
And that's it.
My skincare routine is more high-maintenance than my make-up. It's Unblemish, which is sulfur wash + clarifying toner + dual intensive acne treatment + eye cream, twice a day.
I think, honestly, I spend more on skincare so I don't have to spend more money or time on make-up.
Do you like to play with make-up and try all the new products? I'm very clearly a creature of habit in this way.
I hate the way face makeup feels so I do the best job I can with my skin. I definitely hear you on that.
ReplyDeleteI love your process of spending more time on skin care than makeup - it's going to make such a difference in the long run! Also, I'm all about buying makeup and brushes at Target, too.
ReplyDeleteMeg, Borrowed Heaven
I can't stand the feeling of foundation, so at the MOST I will use a light BB cream or something. Usually, I just use a tiny bit of concealer and then a powder foundation, which looks/feels a lot better.
ReplyDeleteI used to be REALLY into makeup and trying new things, and I still am a little bit, but lately I've been more into downsizing and finding things I really like vs. just buying ALL THE NEW THINGS just to try them out. Eyeshadow has always been my weakness but as I get older, neutrals are where it's at.
I think the only makeup I own over $12 is the Urban Decay Naked palette, but it's lasts a long time and is the only one I need. I'm with you on the drugstore buys. I need to get much better about creating and maintaining a skincare routine.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a minimalist when it comes to makeup, I pretty much go out the door with mascara and blush on.
ReplyDeleteI was just talking to my friend about this yesterday. She said she has tons of makeup but doesn't use any of it because it takes too long. I have like, five things, and it takes me 3 minutes MAX. I use Tarte & Beautycounter though, and it's more expensive because it's the all-natural stuff, but it works well and doesn't make me break out, so I keep using it!
ReplyDeleteI would love to experiment more with make up, but I just don't feel like I know enough about it to do that! I have my basics and I do have 3 different eyeshadow palettes that I use...two the most often because they're more neutral.
ReplyDeletelol at sharpening - so true. the other day my friend came over to get ready and was like 'i need a sharpener' and i was like... nope.
ReplyDeletei think spending more time and money on skincare is more important than makeup.. of course i know lots of people love makeup and that is fine. i love wearing a full face of makeup like once a month, but for the most part i am concealer + mascara each day, maybe a bb cream. i love that mascara and i have the same bare minerals stuff (i think i bought mine in 2011 and it is still going strong... oops). my skin reacts badly when i wear a lot of makeup a lot of days in a row, so that's another reason as well.
