TGIF and Scott's apartment

Scott has an apartment on the MS&T campus.  He has an apartment because he has 18 math and chemistry graduate credits this semester and spends 12 hours a day doing schoolwork.  6 other hours he spends in class, and he usually spends the last 6 sleeping.  You see how this has been a rough couple of months.  The campus is 30 minutes from our house and his classes are spread out throughout the day.  For this reason, a couple hundred dollars a month for an apartment was a worthwhile investment.

He usually stays there Monday through Wednesday, comes home for a night, then goes back and comes home for the weekend after his Friday classes.  Sometimes he even goes there on the weekends, or I'll drop him off while I run errands in town, just so he can get stuff done.  I usually go there at least one night a week and we'll get Jimmy John's, or something equally fancy, for dinner.

We're really into budgeting our time these days and have been saddled with some very busy schedules.

This past Monday night, Scott went to sleep around 12:30am after taking the dog out.  He figured if he took Scout out that late, he wouldn't wake him up by whining at the door until at least 7:00.  Scout's m.o. is to roll around in the wee hours making zombie noises and gremlin-like growls.  It's how he amuses himself before we're ready to get out of bed, I guess.  Sometimes it goes on from 4am to whenever one of us opens the door to let him out.

However…

After taking the dog out, Scott went to sleep.  He was awoken by a whiny Scout sometime later.  He checked his watch.  It said 6:27.  Oh well, he thought, and took the dog out.  While he was outside, Scott decided to go to Wal-Mart, just a few miles away, because he wanted to get ingredients to make breakfast.  He didn't have eggs.

Scott and Scout got in the truck and drove to Wal-Mart.  Scout waited patiently, I assume, while Scott went inside.  Scott wondered why it was so empty in there.  Workers were stocking shelves.  Scott bought what he needed and left.

He got to the truck.  He looked at the clock.  It was 3:35am.  His watch had been on timer mode from when he'd been cooking dinner that night.  It ended up stopped at 6:27 and he'd never changed it back.

When he told me this story, I could only liken it to the excuses I get out of the 2nd graders when they do something that I can't even begin to comprehend.

He said, "It's Scout's fault..the little doodie was just sitting there in the truck, like it was the middle of the day. He wasn't even tired."

I would like to thank my husband for giving me material to write about today.  I was drawing a blank.

  1. A couple times, when I was in college, I woke up after an hour of sleeping, dragged myself into the bathroom, had a shower, and then realized that it was like 11:30, and not the morning...

  5. That is great! Maybe not for Scott, but it is nice to know that I am not the only one that does kooky things when deprived of sleep.

  6. This story is amazing! Too funny. The apartment in the city thing is definitely important when there's such a commute. J and I went to college together and it makes me think of that time when we'd have 2 different apartments that were pretty much both home!

  12. Haha! Too funny! I'm sure he wasn't happy about it at the time. But it sure makes for a good story now! I was so exhausted last night, I fell asleep while we were watching a movie. I woke up and was convinced it had to be 2:30 AM. It was 11:30.
