"The sweetest puppy that ever was, is, or will be."

^That's what we say to Scout.  He definitely isn't going to be lacking in the self-esteem department.

Sometimes I think that he believes he's a person because we treat him like one of us.

"Time for bed?  Okay, guys, I'm coming", I imagine him saying.

"Oh, we're watching Netflix again? I'll be right there. Make some room, would you?"

"You're going somewhere? I'll be right here.  Waiting.  Exactly by the door.  So you don't mistakenly leave without me. Again."

And since he's from Louisville, I imagine him with a slight twang to his "voice".

Oh, Scout.

I honestly don't know what we did without you.  You are spoiled.  But you are so cuddly and (seemingly) appreciative of all the love (and bacon) we give you.  Completely worth it.  I don't know if we'll ever have a girl dog now that we know the rumor of boy dogs being extra-cuddly is true.  He still lets me carry him around like a baby.  He has many nicknames:  Scout-fish, because he always falls into bodies of water; Doodie-head, because Scott is mean; Fluffernutter, because I am mean; and Bud-Bud, because he is Scott's hunting buddy.

Scout turned 6 months old on Saturday.  I made him pupcakes.  He really is a good dog.  Scott is training him to retrieve ducks and, from what I hear, he's getting to be good at it.  He even did this thing we'd only read about: found a dead animal and rolled in it to disguise his scent while he was hunting.  It's a "Brittany trait", apparently.  His natural instincts are kind of over the top and we're convinced his IQ is higher than either of ours.

As I type this, I hear: "Are you ready for bed-bed, bud-bud?" in the background.  Nope, he's not spoiled at all.

  1. Before getting married, and then adopting Gigi, I never had a dog, nor wanted one. Now that we have two, I can't even imagine my life without dogs ever again. We have a boy and girl, and both are super cuddly "babies", though we have little dogs so that could be why. Glad you love Scout so much! He's so cute.

  2. It is amazing how quickly and wholeheartedly you can be attached to a pet. People don't quite understand how Emma and Fishy are a part of our family. I couldn't imagine our lives without them.

  3. My dog also rolls in poop to disguise his scent. We are not amused.

  5. He's just the cutest! I'm so glad he's a good dog and extra cuddly. Those are the best kind :) it makes me glad you treat him like a person because we treat gizmo like one too. Always makes me feel better and more normal when other people do too.

  8. OOOOOH he IS the sweetest! Those pictures kill me. I don't know how you even managed the pic of him with his pupcake--Bailey would have devoured it before it even left my hand! But I guess that's the difference...your dog is trained ;) (in my defense--Bailey was severely abused when we adopted her and had many anxieties--so training her was a little out of the question considering she always thought we were going to beat her to death--poor thing).

  9. He is so sweet! I love dogs. Mine were my babies before I had babies ( and I still baby them).

I have a Brittany/Pointer mix who is always rolling around in stinky stuff in the yard. I never knew why until now.

  10. It's amazing how our pets are like spoiled kids! (BUT they still behave than actual spoiled children do!!)

I have all kinds of nicknames for Allie and Abbie. Scott is convinced that they don't know their names. But I call Allie: peanut (because she's tiny), Alley Cat, Alliepopper, etc. etc. Abbie gets Bean, Beaners, Beanerbot, Abbers, etc. etc. lol

  11. He is so cute and seems so sweet. Dogs might walk on 4 legs but they are like people in our family too. I couldn't imagine not having them.

  12. I'm so in love with Scout, I wish he and Casey could hang out and roll in gross stuff together (OK, maybe not so much that last part). I love that you guys gave him an accent, Casey has a southern accent too so it makes me feel (slightly) less crazy.

  13. He is so sweet. Both of my pets have "voices" and about a million different names, too. They have such a wide range of personality traits that it's impossible not to nickname them about all of them!

  14. Our newest pup is 4 months old & he's already won my heart... & I already believe he understands me. But long ways to go... our old pros in the house (oldest is 13) they look at him with wisdom he doesn't have yet :)
