4 on Friday

1.  I did my Black Friday shopping on Wednesday with a friend, whose name is also Kristin.

Some of you may have seen this on Instagram.

While we were shopping, I stopped at Starbucks and ordered us both a drink.  They spelled both names wrong (Kristen).  So disappointing.

2.  I don't care if you shopped last night.

Who cares if people want to go shopping on Thanksgiving night?  And, honestly, I judge you a little bit if you say Thanksgiving is for family-time only.  As someone who has spent 5 Thanksgivings away from home, I feel I have the right to make that judgement.  Our first married Thanksgiving was spent with Scott deployed.  Since then, we've been lucky to have friends to spend it with.  People who don't have set traditions to follow as brand-new adults might be looking for something to do on that day….are you going to complain that the hospitals and fire departments are open too?  Or all of you who like to go to the movies…who do you think is selling you popcorn on holidays?

Plus, I worked 3 Thanksgivings (and Easters, Christmas Eves, Mother's/Father's Days, etc.) in a row as a waitress.  If you feel the world should stop for a day, you've never had to work on Thanksgiving.

3.  Scout gave us a scare the other day.  You see, I moved his crate so I could squeeze our giant Christmas tree into the dining area.  He walked around for hours looking for his crate.  He was like a paranoid, hallucinating drug addict.  I showed him where it was.  I took him to it.  He went inside, and then went back to its old spot.  His ears were twitching.  He kept wanting to go outside.  He peed on the floor.  He kept looking at the ceiling like someone was up there.

I put the stupid crate back.

Merry Christmas to you too, Scout.

4.  In other news, my house is too small.  Thankfully, thankfully, we'll only be here for 6 more months.  It never fails.  After we're in a place for a few months, I start seeing everything that is wrong with it.  This house's flaws include: pothole-laden road is the only access, on a hill, small driveway, no spot for a Christmas tree, no proper foyer.

(Scott thinks I'm ridiculous.  I was just spoiled by the giant, cavernous empty shell we lived in for 2 years in Alaska.)

Today, I plan on baking cookies, online shopping, and wrapping gifts. I've got a few recipes to share next week.  As soon as I can muster up the energy to type them out.  'Tis vacation, after all.  Vacation is wonderful.

  1. That text made me LOL. You should refer to yourself as Kristin to confuse him.

  2. I feel exactly how you do about shopping on Thanksgiving. I could care less if people want to shop and no one should be judged for it.

  3. I went shopping last night and I don't care. We spent entire day with family and by 5pm we all had departed on our own ways. Not to mention I usually work and whatnot. So to those who complained about it, keep on complaining because that's all you do. Unless the world shuts down, there will always be someone working on a holiday - you need gas attendants to get you to your family activities, you need hotel attendants to stay in town to see your family...I can go on ;)

  5. I agree with the shopping thing! I hate when people post about how they're spending the day at home and how it's those that go shopping's fault because they're bad awful people! I went shopping last night with a friend & had a great time! It was INSANE but it was nice to get out of the house and not stress about cleaning up yet and just nice to be kid free out shopping with a friend.
It's the first time i've gone shopping like that in like 8/9 years! But even before last night those posts annoyed me.

  6. It's tough having friends with the same name as you. haha :)

I'm planning to give cookies as Christmas gifts to my co-workers this year. I'm hoping to get some baking done this weekend. We shall see. I've barely gotten the laundry done today....

  7. Cookies, online shopping and wrapping. Sounds wonderful. All you need is a bit of alcohol and it would be a perfect day for me!

  8. Love the text. I did my "Black Friday" shopping online last night - but it wasn't that great because Canadians really don't know how to do Black Friday. The deals aren't spectacular. I completely know how you feel about having a house that's too small. We went from a 4 bedroom two story house with a basement, to a 2 bedroom 1 1/2 story with a small basement. Our kitchen table doesn't fit in the kitchen. But it's also temporary for us as well, only 11 more months.

  9. Our place in Missouri was perfect for like 2 days. And then I started realizing everything I hated about it. Thank God that place was only for a short amount of time!

  10. Yes! I went shopping on Thursday night--primarily for really boring stuff for my kid-wealthy and money-poor parents: stuff like bras and jeans for teenage siblings who lack any clothes that fit. Angel works nearly every holiday...and most of the time loves it because of better pay for the same amount of hours at work--spending time with your family is a privilege that not everyone has at all times, and for some people it just works better on other days, not specific holidays.

Wow, I definitely read this as "Scott gave us quite a scare the other day"... I thought it was one of those stupid army crates and then when I read that he peed on the floor my heart jumped up into my throat.
