My weekly gratitude

Would you believe that I had a post all written up for today about how depressed I am?

(Yeah, you'd probably believe that.)

Granted, the majority of that post was making fun of Alaska...but this week wasn't nearly as sucktacular as I thought it would be.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I am still in Alaska.

And last weekend was rough on me.  I was sickish.  Our Army life keeps getting effed up.  I'm stressed a bit over situations beyond my control.  And I still have to show up for work everyday.

But then, some good things happened to me, so we'll talk 'bout them, okay?

#1  The season 1 Breaking Bad finale arrived from Netflix TWO days early.  4 more seasons to go...

#2  The glorious boots that Kelly unselfishly snagged for me at the Mall of America arrived in the mail. This chick is awesome.  I commented that I loved her boots just last week and asked her where I could find them.  She said she'd go pick them up for me at the mall and ship them.  In LESS THAN A WEEK, I had new boots.

They were cheap too!  Paying her for shipping + the cost of the boots was less than I could find for just the boots online.

I cannot say enough good things about Kelly.  She rocks.

#3   Scott sent me flowers.  Orange tulips are my favorite.

He knows to send tulips.  ALWAYS tulips.
This is, like, bouquet #4 from ProFlowers in the last 6 months, but I remember he also bought me flowers a year and a half ago after he decided it'd be a good idea to gut and skin 15 snowshoe hares in my kitchen.  I think he learned his lesson after that one.

#4 After a rainy, hellish week in 4th grade last week, this week wasn't half bad.
Granted, "not quite hellish" shouldn't be my goal.  But it's something.

#5 I never thought I'd be this person...but I must say that when I have news (good, bad, or indifferent), the first people I want to share with are my blog friends.  You guys "get" me, and I'm so grateful for you all.
That's something that Facebook could never do for any of us.  Facebook is about people trying to one-up each other.  Blogging is about supporting each other.  Also, Facebook is like a gossip magazine that you glance through at the grocery store checkout.  You want to skim it, but do not want to buy it, and certainly don't want your name anywhere in that train wreck.

Is there anything you're particularly grateful for this week?
This lady (and her optimism) was my inspiration for this post.  She always has a kind word of encouragement for me and THAT is why I love my blog friends.

  1. I LOVE those boots! I've wanted ones with a zipper like that - that was so sweet of her! and we love breaking bad! and I totally agree with you, especially lately I feel like i'd rather talk to or tell things to my blog friends. I just wish some of them I could see in person!!!

  2. Those are great boots. More for your collection. :) I need to go try boots like that on again. I tried them a few years ago, but they didn't fit my calves. Now that I've been running and stuff, maybe they'll fit differently.

Also, I totally hear you on wanting to share news with bloggy friends. And yet there are people I know IRL that I don't want to share things with, so I keep those things off my blog. Sad, huh?

  3. Some weeks, "not quite hellish" is an accomplishment :) And I LOVE your description of facebook. I believe it was a simile.

  4. Dear Kristin,
I enjoy your blog immensely for two reasons: 1)I've lived in Anchorage Alaska and I know how terrible it can get up there. (which reminds me to write about it sometime.) 2) I have lived away from my husband for two years and I know exactly how miserable that experience is. (Worst Experience Ever). I was in Denver, he was in Oklahoma and my family was/still is in Oregon and all of that meant that I had no support system while hubby was away. I surprisingly survived the ordeal and managed to not get completely medicated (I did focus a lot of my energy on enjoying craft beer though and that could be considered a form of medication.) Keep up the posts and if you need encouragement, please reach me. My ramblings will now end. Esther Norine Designs

  5. Aww, so sweet!! LOOOOOOVE the boots on you and honestly I just felt so compelled to find them for you because not only are you the sweetest Kristin, but as a fellow boot lover and cold-weather dweller, I KNOW how important it is to look cute during the winter months!! ;-)

    LOVE the tulips!!

Hoping for a great weekend for you and another "not so hellish" week with the kiddos.

  7. :)

Life definitely sucks sometimes, but blog friends DEFINITELY help de-suck (totally a word) things. And that is terribly true about FB vs. Blogs - I had never thought about it that way, but that's exactly it. When I was in a deep, dark pit a year ago it was my blog friends that did the trick getting me out of it. The love and encouragement here in our little world is incredible!

Many hugs for you lady! Many hugs, many prayers and lotsa love :)

  9. Thank you for that. You have no idea how much it helps to just have someone commiserate. I mean, I'm sure you do know. And that's why it's helpful.

There's no stress like that overarching, ethereal military stress where they like to jack with your life and sort of tell you something but not really so you know what's supposed to be happening but you don't know when it's happening. Military bastards. I am with you there.

  14. Oh my gosh, I love those boots! Blog friends are the best, aren't they?

Those flowers are so pretty! Very well done Scott ;) I've always been more of a tulip fan than a fan of roses. You're not the only one who runs straight to her blog friends with news, regardless of good or bad. There's no one that 'gets it' more than blog friends.

  15. That is so sweet that she sent you boots! I love that and I'm overly emotional so I may have teared up reading this post.
