I couldn't decide on breakfast...so I'm writing about it.

I am NOT a morning person.  Not in any sense.  I can do okay in the mornings as long as I don't have to be around other human beings.  Trust me when I say it takes every ounce of positivity in me to say "Good morning!" to my students.  I'm just not that person.  (I do, however, give hugs, smile, and tell them I'll see them tomorrow when they walk out the door.  I must hit my stride in the p.m.)

I like getting up early, having the house to myself, cleaning, grading, organizing, cooking.  As long as I don't have to talk to anyone.

Contact before 10am is iffy.  You're kinda risking it by saying, "Goooooooood morning!" when you see me before a certain time.

I do get up insanely early though.  I leave for school at 8am.  I get up at 5:30am.  I need those hours to move through my routine.  If I'm rushed, I'll be in a bad mood.  I'm pretty slow in the a.m.  I like to have time to read blogs, shower, watch the Today show, do laundry/dishes, etc.

So yesterday, I got up at 5:33am (I set my alarms to really weird times).  After s.l.o.w.l.y getting ready, it was only 7am and the question of breakfast perplexed me.  I wasn't really hungry, but knew I'd be starving by 10am and that would send me to my stash of Hershey bars by noon.  Not eating breakfast sets me up for a bad day.

This is what indecisiveness looks like.

I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat.  I ended up with a piece of toast with strawberry jam, a piece of a chocolate chip pancake, and half a serving of oatmeal.   I almost put chocolate chips in my oatmeal.  That's the yellow bag.  I decided against it.

The pancake batter was leftover from the night before.  I wasn't planning on eating them for breakfast.  I packed two pancakes for lunch at school.  I nibbled on the one you see there and, currently, it's still sitting on that plate.

Vanilla and cinnamon for the oatmeal.  Plus, the ingredients for the chili I told myself I'd be making for dinner last night.  They're still sitting there.  I had a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner.

And then I ate some animal crackers and rice crispy treats.

Do you have weird breakfast habits?  Are you soooo not a morning person?  I've been this way forever and I really don't see it changing anytime soon.

  2. i actually am more of a morning person than a night person - my husband is the opposite. I'd rather go to bed early so I can be up early - I like the quiet mornings. : ) and breakfast is my favorite meal and often have a hard time deciding what to eat because I like many of the options!

  3. I, too, wake up early but hate being talked to or bothered until after the first cup of coffee. Unfortunately, my 7-year-old, who has had 7 years of experience with this, doesn't abide by that unwritten rule. She watches TV for an hour or so and I slowly wake up, do blog stuff, and nurse coffee. As for weird eating, I always eat cereal. 99% of the time. And it's always the same kind: Special K Vanilla Almond.

  4. Love this post because I am JUST like you...I am NOT at all a morning person! If I don't have coffee, I am barely able to function.
