WUW-Last week in September

So hot and dry that we stopped to look at a tumbleweed on our walk last week:

Oh, just kidding. It's rained for the last two days so now the dry ground is completely flooded, muddy, and gross.

There: That's the What's up Wednesday update.

Eating: I shared this week's menu plan on Instagram. I get a lot of my recipes from How Sweet Eats because they're never not good. I will say, she uses a lot of ingredients. Like, when I started using a meal kit two years ago (on and off for like a year), I was shocked at how little ingredients were in each recipe because I'm used to the internet, I guess.

I also had a great conversation last week about how people don't cook anymore; they assemble or they reheat. Thoughts?

Loving: Football on TV. Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Saturday. There's always something to watch. Scott said the fact that I like football and always know the schedules is one of my better qualities ha ha ha. I remember my aunt explaining to me, during a pee-wee football game when I was about 9 or 10, how it worked with the downs and the yardage and the points. I've liked it ever since and have never really followed another sport.

Up to:

Trying to go places and do things on the weekend but it's still annoyingly hot out for the end of September. This was attempting to visit a used bookstore on Saturday but it was randomly closed.

Dreading: ....I don't know? Nothing in particular. Though, I finally had to do it: switch vets. I tried to keep the dogs with our Missouri vet (we've used that vet for over 4 years now) but I can't get them back there for appointments or to pick up meds by myself with two kids. It's too far. I tried to renew Scout's medication and they said he needed a wellness exam first (which I have NO IDEA why they didn't do that when he got a vaccine back in June). Anyway....new vet on Monday. Thoughts and prayers, please.

Working on:

Reorganizing a bunch of our homeschool stuff (already). I never realized how much of your brain could be taken up with the endeavor of homeschooling. Now that we're over 6 weeks in, I'm working on some of our systems, especially what I'm doing with Sutton.

Excited about: FALL. #fall. #FALL We're also doing a field trip this weekend but it'll be 85 degrees.

Watching: Again, football, but I watched the Charlie Kirk memorial on Sunday and accomplished little else. We've also been watching The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. So good. The 7th and final episode is out today.

I've said a lot about Charlie Kirk in the last two weeks, but the one thing I'll say is that President Trump was definitely used as the comic relief for this huge TPUSA event and I just personally find it funny the way he has Lee Greenwood on retainer.

Reading: This was our reading yesterday.

I'm reaffirmed in why I'm doing Treehouse Schoolhouse with Sutton. I, a grown 39 year old *elementary teacher* had never even heard of Miss Suzy and it's the most delightful book. Wells is reading the Horrible Harry book out loud to me. I've been spending an inordinate amount of time at secondhand stores looking for picture books lately.

Listening to: I don't know guys, I'm over-inundated with news. I've really been enjoying Tim Pool's podcast and Megyn Kelly's show for the most up-to-date information right now. I listen to both on Apple podcasts.

Wearing: Crew socks. I'm a believer. I have lots of thoughts but I feel like it looks more put together than no-show socks and sneakers? Maybe? ??

This weekend: field trip and football. And maybe looking for some more secondhand books.

Next month: Doing all the fall and Halloween things. Knowing I can't rely on public school to "do the fun things", I need to start making a list.
