Friday Recommendations, 9/19

I'm still feeling sad and mostly angry over current events at this point. My first recommendation is something I wanted to recommend weeks and weeks ago and forgot. We've been watching the John Wick series and I couldn't sleep for days, not being able to get that dog out of my head. (Highlight for spoiler: Scott was like Kristin, they did not kill a puppy in the making of the movie.) I completely and totally understood John Wick tying the dog to his wife and the grief that held for him.

Look at it this way: If the dog is Charlie Kirk, the grief being felt is the death of democracy in the sense that people who love America and the Constitution and the principles our country was founded on and whole-heartedly believe in conservative and biblical principles are completely disillusioned by how evil people who don't like us can be.

If you haven't watched John Wick, go watch at least the first one and then this will make sense.

1. John Wick

2. Curology cleanser. I forgot my facewash in Missouri last month so I wanted something gentle, cheap, and good for sensitive skin from Walmart. I added this to the grocery order. I really like it. Bonus points for it being unscented.

3.  Swiffer Heavy Duty. I am still fighting with these floors in our Kansas rental. Mostly because they're a laminate but look like hardwood. I actually really like them but because they're shiny and all, they show dirty and a lot more easily than our floors in Missouri did. I've used a broom, a vacuum, whatever. I saw a youtube ad one day and, since we already have a Swiffer anyway, I grabbed these heavy duty duster pads. I really like them. This ^ is actually a much better deal than what I paid at Walmart and the ones I ended up with are scented. I'll be reordering from Amazon next time. I go over the floor once after lunch (kids and their crumbs) and once after dinner. One pad does the whole floor, and then I'll go over the living room/foyer every other day or so. I do still have to actually vacuum the stairs and runner. Anyway, I've lost years of my life adjusting to how to clean each house (9 of them) in the last 16 years.

4.  Secret Stories cards. These are something I used in my classroom the last two years. Wells' teachers also used them so these have made transitioning to new phonics and reading programs a lot easier. They're not super cheap but I recommend them for homeschool families! There's a book but he already knows the "stories" and they have summaries on the back of the cards. This is "i tries on e for size" because "i" says long "e" in the middle of a word or if there's more than one syllable.
