Friday Favorites (a book and a movie)

1. Today we're on our way back to Colorado Springs. I'm pretty happy with the progress I made on the Wyoming house. I painted most of the living room/kitchen, painted the baby's room, got to organize some things, got some birthday presents for family at the campus bookstore, cleaned A LOT, and came up with a game plan for where furniture will go. We also got a storage unit just a few blocks from our house so that's where the bulk of things we don't use (things that have been kept in our basement and three sheds) will go. Of course, I'm also going through a major purging phase and donating everything from extra dishes to books to DVDs to shoes.

2. I read this book in two days. I could've read it in less but I had to paint/walk the dogs/go to the movies/etc. It was fabulous and I can't recommend it enough. It was a "thriller" but not in a hokey way. It had enough twists to keep me guessing and wanting more and, I thought, really good character development. Like, all I wanted to do was find out what would happen next. It also wasn't really violent or disturbing like some thrillers I've come across (think: not another Behind Closed Doors). If a book holds my attention in that way, it must get 5 stars.

3. We went to see Ready Player One on opening night. There were 12 people in the theater (#laramie), which you will NOT hear me complaining about because I despise overcrowded movie theaters. This is probably why we've only been to the movies in Colorado Springs about 5 times in 4 years.
I never read the book because I have a lot of trouble visualizing such detail and I just assumed it wouldn't be for me. I was right: the movie was really good but I'm glad I never attempted the book. I likely wouldn't have been able to appreciate the movie.
If you're looking for a movie to go see this weekend, and especially if you haven't read the book, I recommend it. We didn't do 3D, but that would've been even better I bet.

4. Valspar Rocky Bluffs from Lowe's is my favorite paint. I painted a huge chunk of our Colorado house with this, then my friend bought it and painted her open kitchen/living room and master bedroom with it. Then I got myself another bucket and brought it to Laramie. It looks good EVERYWHERE.

It's not like I have furniture set up anywhere, but maybe I'll have some before/after pictures for next week.

5. And some funny things I've seen this week:

Happy Easter weekend! We're not doing anything special, and state testing starts for my class on Monday. Should be a fabulous way to return after spring break. (As well as the fact that my classroom is still un-set-up from the new carpet installation...will make for a great Monday, no doubt.)

  1. I keep hearing great things about that book.
HAHA - that meme about the compromise. That was us with Ernie - except it was Ricky who wanted the dog & said, "Lets just go look at the puppies"... yeah, there was no walking away with "just looking" ;)

  2. Kyle loves the Ready Player One book! We are fans of going to the theater so we will definitely see it when it's released on demand.

  3. I want to see Ready Player One. I read the book years ago but don't remember much of it at all, but I did like it. I just spent the week in FL in our new apartment and since barely anything is there and I enjoyed not having stuff everywhere, I'm now going to purge even more before we move.

I've heard good things about that book. I'm just going to have to cave and buy it :)
