Breaking up with Carmex

Yesterday's best effort…

I've been die-hard Carmex user since 2004.  It was thick, felt almost-medication like, and made my lips feel fabulous.  Tastes terrible, of course.  But I got used to that.

I've tried other chapsticks and lip balms in the last few years and they've all left my lips dry and gross feeling.  EOS, Burt's Bees, etc.  I haven't had any luck.

Lately I've found myself using my Carmex (I keep several tubes around the house) somewhere around 6 times a day.  Inconvenient.  If I don't use it, my lips feel awful and then I'm in a bad mood. On Tuesday, I lost one of my Carmex tubes and then I forgot my spare on the bathroom counter and I was pretty miserable all day.  I was constantly using another kind of gloss/balm and it was doing nothing for me.  Of course, I had that one laying around in my purse.

So, I come to you all.  Tell me your favorite chapstick, please.

  1. I'm not particularly loyal but I've been using the "Yes to..." brand chapstick for the last year because it includes sunscreen, which I like.

  2. I use C.O. Bigelow Rose salve from bath and body works! It can be used on cuticles, elbows, knees, etc but I love it as a lip balm. I'm addicted!

  3. I love Burt's Bees! So does Kyle and he is picky about that kind of stuff lol. Go figure.

  4. I like EOS but you have to reapply it a lot my favorite would have to be Vaseline Rosy Lips! I think they make a regular one too, but it lasts a while and makes my lips feel great and gives them a tad color which I like because I don't wear lipstick.

  6. Nivea a kiss of mint and minerals :) Definitely doesn't make you reliant, it's not thick, gives the "medicated" sensation without being overwhelming. Love it!

  7. I'm not going to lie -- I use Vasoline, in the tub. Sounds strange, but I love the way my lips feel. I also really love the R+F Lip Serum; half a capsule in the am and the other half at night!

  8. Expensive, but Fresh Sugar. I only need to use it once a day, and then at night I swipe on some EOS.

I've been a fan of Blistex Lip Medix (blue tub) for years.

  9. L'Occitane 100% shea butter in the tiny tin. Pricey but worth it. I have found that the little tin formula works best.
I also bought some 100% shea butter handmade in Charleston SC market. Only thing that came even close to second. (the lady who prepares it is probably still there and she ships.

  10. I use Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment (DCT) every single night and I love it because it's not waxy and doesn't leave a weird film on my lips. It's in a little pink tub.

And then my other recently discovered favorite is that minted rose lip balm I talked about in my blog the other day, and the strawberry one is great, too. Again...no weird film, and it's not waxy at all. And I'm one of the absolute pickiest people when it comes to chapsticks/lip balms!

  11. We're addicted to Burt's Bees around here. Only the original one.

  12. I like Vaseline Rosy Lips, it seems to last longer than most I have tried, meaning less applications per day. However, it is not in a tube so that is the downfall. I also like Blistex Five Star protection that is in sort of a tan colored tube.

I put Argon Oil on my lips before bed most nights.

  13. I recently came across two chapsticks that I love... Joshua Tree lip balm, and Alba Botanica lip balm. Neither are medicated so they won't have that tingly sensation if that's what you're looking for. However, they are both organic and have great scents and taste good. Not that I eat chapstick or anything. You know what I mean.

  14. I use the turquoise colored Blistex. I love it. It's the only one I'll use.

  15. I use Vaseline on my lips at night, and AVON Chapstick throughout the day. I will say that I have heard that Chapstick is actually the problem. I've heard that they all basically make your lips dry in order to make you continue applying therefore needing to buy more. This COULD be the opportunity to kick the habit completely! :)

  16. I am a huge EOS fan. It's the only thing that moisturizes my lips for hours. I used to use Chapstick and Burt's Bees but I felt like I was constantly reapplying all day long (seriously, it was once an hour). EOS has made it so I only have to apply a few times a day and I am good. I carry two with me in my purse at all times, have one next to the bed and computer at home, and one in my desk drawer at work.
