It's almost the (holiday) weekend again..and my new Toms!

We're taking off for Pennsylvania tomorrow for one of those over-scheduled, high-maintenance, too-quick trips that we're so good at.  Well, we're not good at them.  We're good at attempting them.

In other news, I bought some Toms.  Let me tell you the story of me and flats...

I can't wear flats.  Ballet flats are cute, sure, but to my feet they are torture.  I get blisters like you would not believe.  I still have scars on my feet from actual cuts made by shoes in the past.  I learned the hard way not to buy shoes that weren't comfortable.  There was an experience right after high school in which the blood from my wounds soaked through the fabric of the flat..thereby ruining the shoes anyway.  This is why I stick to sandals in summer and boots in winter.

I've tried about 5 different pairs over the last few years and each and every pair went into the donation bin.  I'd wear them once, maybe twice, to school because I thought they were so cute and the perfect compliment to whatever I was wearing.  By 10am, I'd be hobbling.  In fact, as I was taught to do by my mentor teacher in college, I kept a pair of flip-flops under my desk.  If I was wearing uncomfortable shoes (in her case, high heels), I'd switch to the flip flops while I was in the classroom.  This was just in the fall, obviously.  In the winter, it was bootsbootsboots, and Alaska knew no such thing as "spring".

I don't know what's wrong with my feet.

When Toms became popular a few years ago, they never crossed my mind as something I'd be able to wear.  During the 2011-2012 school year, so many of the girls in my class wore Toms.  Toms in the fall, in the winter, in the spring.  Their Toms were not in the prettiest of conditions by the time 4th grade was over.  But, man, those Toms were cute.

While we were in Miami in December, I saw gray and white cheetah print Toms that I just loved.  I debated for awhile, but decided I didn't want to ruin them in Alaska.  There was snow until the day we moved to Missouri in April.  I didn't want to wear them in the snow.  My feet are too sensitive for that nonsense anyway (In fact, I'm wearing socks as I type this..in July).

I kept those Toms in the back of my head though and, last week, I found Toms at an independent retailer down the street, right in my town.  Unfortunately, I don't think anyone is really selling the cheetah print ones anymore.  I settled on gray.

Go ahead.  Tell me:  You can wear any kind of shoes you want and you never get blisters, right?  Or maybe tell me you can't wear certain shoes and make me feel like less of an oddball.  Yes, do that.

  2. I'm like you with flats! It sucks. It's painful. I have an overstock of sandals and flipflops.

  3. I find that so strange because I LIVE in flats! Ballet flats, TOMS, flat sandals, etc. If I have to wear a heel for more than 30 minutes my feet are done. TOMS are some of my favorite shoes!

  4. I have such a hard time finding comfortable flats (or heels). I have one pair of ballet flats that I've almost worn out completely because they're the only comfortable flats I own, but I have to wear them with stockings, which is so annoying. I got a pair of TOMS last summer and I loved them at first, but now when I wear them I feel like they make me walk on the inside of my feet (as opposed to flat). That's probably just me.

  6. I think I have the cheetah print white and gray ones you speak of. My sister bought them for her daughter but they didn't fit and she gave them to me. They don't make them anymore, but she was able to find them on ebay. Maybe check there?

  7. I get blisters too. I rarely wear heels, and never to school. I do bring a pair of flip flops (or UGGS) to work when I think my feet will start to hurt. I wear TOMS to work all the time though. Love them!

  9. I guess I've never really had a problem with flats...it's sandals that I have trouble with if they don't fit just right!!

BUT I have those same TOMS and I'm pretty much head over heels in love with them. I want them in every color. And the LACE ones...ohmygosh. If only I didn't live here. You should get some and I'll live vicariously through you.

  10. I love shoes, and I have found that high heels and flats can both be uncomfortable for me. High heels make my feet sore. Flats do have a tendency to give blisters. I don't know why that is. I've been thinking about trying TOMS (or a knock-off brand). I may have to try them out!

  13. I cannot wear flats - or any shoes without socks. I'm like you - blisters, rubbing, scratches. So many are so cute, but I just gave up a long time ago. I even wear socks with Uggs.

I've debated about Toms. Are they really comfy???

  14. Ok, so I understand what you mean, but I wear flats 75% of the time. In fact, I even wear them in winter. And then the guys in my office ask, "but why are you wearing FLATS? In WINTER??!" (Ok so maybe I wear snow boots through the snow and change into flats when I get in the office, just maybe.)
Are the Toms comfortable? I have some Toms ballet flats but I like how those ones look better!

  17. I've never been the biggest fan of Toms. I really like huge range of colors and fabrics and patterns...but the shape of them looks really awkward on my feet. My go-to comfy but cute shoes are either converse or ballet flats--they have to be the right kind of ballet flats, though. I have one white pair that are blissfully comfortable that I swear I got for $10 at some little ma-n-pa shop in Malaysia. I had them for a year before we got married, I wore them for our wedding, I wear them a lot! But it's rare to find a perfectly comfy pair that won't cut my feet. I do tend to have more trouble with the straps of sandals cutting my feet. And I can barely even wear high heels--those things hurt!

  18. I'm all about ballet flats & converse. I can't wear heels cause those suckers give me major blisters within seconds of putting them on. The last time I wore some were for my brothers wedding & it looked like my feet had been through war after that night.

Love the new shoes! Also, I feel like I've been out of the blog loop for so long...you have a new design?! I'm totally loving it.
