High 5

1.  Scott thinks that crane flies are good because they eat mosquitos, so when one gets in the house, he won't let me kill it.  There was one in the room when I was trying to sleep the other night.  I named him Harry Crane, the crane fly.

2.  I caught up on Mad Men and Game of Thrones this week.  I LOVE DIRECTV and that dang Genie.  I cannot say enough good things about DirecTV.  It's so much better than cable and, honestly, cheaper (I can explain if you're interested.)

3.  My favorite Game of Thrones moment in season 3:

I won't spoil it by saying what's awkward.  In case you haven't caught up yet.

4.  June is upon us!  Anyone want to button swap for June?  If you're already on my shamefully-put-together sidebar and want to continue the May swap for another month, just let me know!  I'm not using PassionFruit and don't really have a limit in mind.

..and, finally:

5.  2 more weeks.

In case you can't tell:

Happy weekend!

  2. I LOVE Directv! I definitely agree about it being better than cable. We will stick with it from now on.

  3. I'm pretty sure you're the only person I know who actually calls them crane flies besides me.

People here call them mosquito hawks, or mosquito eaters, or something crazy like that.

  4. Man. I've only seen season one of Game of Thrones... and only read the first book. I feel so left out!

  5. I didn't realize what crane flies actually were and that they eat mosquitos, I honestly always thought they were just huge mosquitos and killed them.

(i'm still a no reply blogger, I can't figure out how to change it, but I think I'm moving my blog over to blogger so that should fix the issue :) )

    Have a good weekend!

  6. Your list this week reminded me that I watched this last night when I wasn't sleeping.

  11. I had to look up the crane fly. I have seen them before, but like so many others, I assumed they were monster mosquitoes. I did discover, however, that adults do not actually eat mosquitoes. Adult crane flies can only eat nectar, and most of them do not eat at all. Their sole purpose, as adults, is to breed more baby crane flies. So... I would kill those suckers if I were you! :)

I agree, however, that anything that kills mosquitoes is worth having around. There is a bat problem around where we live (almost every house has them). We have a relatively small bat problem at our house. We never see them, hear them, smell them, or anything, but we know they are there in the attic. We are putting a new roof on the house sometime this year, and we plan to have the new roof bat-proofed, but I do not want to completely get rid of the bats either, so I think we'll build a bat box near the house. One colony of little brown bats eats like a quarter of a million insects in one night (or something crazy like that), so I still want them fighting on my side... just not in my house. Have I mentioned how much I hate bugs?!

  12. P.S. I am so glad that you are caught up on Game of Thrones. I am always afraid of spoiling something for somebody because I HATE when people do that for me. I pretty much know everything that happens in Book 3 courtesy of my Mom and sisters who have already read it or are close to finishing it, but you don't have to worry. I will not spoil anything! But apparently, Book 3 is being split into 2 seasons (if you hadn't heard). Too much stuff happens to squeeze it into one, so Season 4 will mostly be Book 3 also. I'm super stoked for these last 2 episodes this Season, but not super stoked that I'm going to have to wait another 9 months or so for Season 4 to start. *sigh* HBO get your act together!

  13. I need to get back into True Blood. The husband won't watch it with me and I haven't been alone long enough lately to watch season 3!
