I need to get it out. Just once. Then the pessimist inside of me will quiet down for the next 6 months of cold, dark winter.

I hate snow.

Now "hate" is a strong word, and we humans throw it around an awful lot. I suppose I don't really hate anything (that isn't purely evil, that is). No matter how many times I say it.

So, for the sake of those optimists out there, I dislike snow. I dislike the cold and I dislike the Municipality of Anchorage for refusing to plow or salt intersections.

Is snow pretty? Well, yeah, for like the month or so before Christmas. Even I'll admit to that.

So yes, I'm one of those people living in Alaska that doesn't like the snow and cold. Do I like my new warm Bear Paw boots? Yes. I appreciate that you can wear a tossel cap and comfortable boots 6 months out of the year. I like winter accessories. But I also like Fall, Summer, and Spring, and we don't get a whole lot of that here.

In fact, in Alaska, students go out for recess down to -10 below zero. Being a sympathizer with those kids who are just not winter-people, I allow whoever wants to stay in from recess to use it as a study hall. There's a couple of kids who jump at that chance every day. No one should be forced to "enjoy" the snow.

But, I digress...

The snow is back, it feels like it never left, and I'm already dreaming of a warm vacation that I'm pretty sure I will get this year.
